Hello, all.
![]() My class had to read The Outsiders in school, and we recently finished it, so my teacher is letting us watch the movie version. This is a good book (written by a 15-year-old, mind you), but the movie supposedly sucks. The acting is said to be terrible, but the cast is amazing! I don't get it. Has anybody seen this movie? It was supposed to be a big thing back in the 80s. What did ya think? ![]() ![]() ~Lauren

I had to watch that movie in school, too. I didn't really care for it either. It seemed like a rip of off West Side Story, in my opinion, which is a much better film.

Well, I saw the movie when it first came out (yes, I'm THAT old) and I liked it. Keep in mind, though, this was during my"crush-on-Ralph Macchio phase" so my opinion of it may have been somewhat skewed!
However, the book was definitely better! There's a sequel to it to, I believe. |

I love The Outsiders movie. I like the cast which was Matt Dillon, Diane Lane, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, C Thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio, Rob Lowe. Matt Dillon & Diane Lane have done 2 other movies together which were Rumblefish & The Big Town. I love The Big Town movie. Diane Lane was a hottie in that flick.

Both the book and the movie were good. They were talking about coming out with a 20th Anniversary dvd of the movie last year with 40 extra minutes worth of stuff they left out of the original, but unfortunately it hasn't come out yet. It might be best though to see the movie on its' own merits and not judge it based on how it lives up to the book. It's a good movie.

The book was better than the movie but the movie was still OK. I remember seeing it when it came out and having a big crush on Matt Dillon.

Both suck, IMO.... but I'd take the book over the movie, anyday.

Stay gold, Ponyboy...stay gold...
Not a bad film. Great cast of young actors, and beautifully photographed. But Leif Garrett was in it, so that brings the score down. |

I thought the book was pretty average and the movie really sucked. But it doesn't really matter if the movie sucked because it was a starting point for how many people? 5? It pretty much launched 5 careers. 'Nuff said.

Hey!!
Well, I love the book--it is much better than the movie!! The best part of the movie was Two-Bit (Emilio Estevez) and his obsession with Mickey Mouse. The acting was horrible in the movie, but the storyline was great, so the book is way better.

Saw the movie many times when it came out and for a while, it was my favorite. After reading the book though, I thought it was a lot better than the movie.
