Dixie was replaced by Mary in 1985.

Yes, both Dixie Carter and Mary Ann Mobley played as Maggie.

I remember reading somewhere that Dixie Carter and Gary Coleman did NOT get along, which is why Dixie left the show. Not sure if was voluntary or not.
