Default The Show May End Next Year

I was just watching On Air With Ryan Seacrest. In his entertainment segment, he said that the stars of That 70's Show are considering "hanging up their leisure suits" after next year. That will be really sad. I didn't watch the show at first. I really got into it last year because I was hooked on AI, and this was the lead-in for the results show. I started watching the reruns, and I'm hooked. This show is FUNNY!

Has anyone else heard the rumors about the show ending?

I don't know if it'll end next season but I have a feeling a few people will be leaving next season (including Ashton Kutcher).

I read a story about Topher Grace this afternoon, and the article mentioned that next year will be his "final year" on the show.

Personally, if some of the cast decides not to come back, the show should end.

It's a great ensemble that should not be broken up.

Sad

I would miss the show if they decide it was time to hang it up, but I agree TJL, the show's premise started the ball rolling, but it was the ensemble that kept the show funny and fresh. If the cast wants to move on, and after this many seasons, I can understand that, then it is time to move on from the seventies..... I will miss it tho.... thank God for syndication!

Too many shows tried to replace key members of the cast and few succeeded. I say, don't mess with a good thing... let the seventies go out with a bang instead.... Maybe a great new years party to ring in 1980 with hints as to what the gang would be doing in the future....

No, they shouldn't replace people. That messes up the dynamic, especially if more than one person leaves. Can you imagine Friends if Rachel and Chandler left? Can you imagine if they tried to bring in someone else? It would just throw everything off.

Some shows can survive constant recasts, but those characters usually don't typically rely on those characters to survive. I think about the assistant district attorney on Law and Order SVU as a good example of a show that's handled recasts well. They've had 3 since the show debuted. However, it is more normal to have different ADA's in real life because people move on. It isn't normal to have a new person enter into such a tight clique of friends like we have here. They did well introducing new people into 90210 as well when favorites like Shannen Doherty, Jason Priestley, and Luke Perry departed. But the dynamic was never quite the same as the early years.

It can be done, but the show will be forever changed.

What I wonder is if these guys movie careers are really strong enough to stop doing the show right now. Two of the kids from 7th Heaven thought theirs were, but where have we seen them lately? And come to think of it, how many of the 90210 people do we see having good success post show? Shannen has a show, as does Jennie. I saw Jason in an ABC Family movie the other night. But I haven't seen much of the rest of them since their Peach Pit days. The same for the Dawson's Creek group.

If you're known for that one show or character and you're getting work for that reason, why not milk it for all it's worth? Do you really think Ashton would have gotten the gig at Punk'd had he not been widely known as Mike Kelso? I'm not trying to diminish anyone's talent here. It's just that sometimes you get parts because you're constantly on the radar. If you're visible every week on a successful television show, you might have a channel surfing casting agent who thinks "yeah, that's the person to play that part."

After all, you do know what they say: Out of site, out of mind. I think the cast should consider that before making any decisions. The Friends cast went 10 seasons. Mind you, if That 70's Show did, it would be the 80's by the end. But wouldn't it be interesting to see how the Reagan years changed these characters?

Well if Topher and Ashton leave the show then they'll only have to get rid of Kelso and Eric. We'll still have Hyde, Jackie, Donna, Fez, Red, and Kitty to keep the show going. They don't even really have to bring in new people. I say the show will keep going for another 1 or 2 seasons.

I can't blame'em.The show doesn't have its spark anymore. They need to end the series with Hyde & Jackie getting engaged and married,Eric & Donna married,Fez & Laurie becoming a real married couple, and Kelso & Brook married. That will be a great ending for show.

If Topher and Ashton leave then the show wouldn't be the same. I mean it wouldn't be 'That 70's Show' with out Kelso being a doofus or Eric screwing something up. Since the show is basically formed around Eric it would be rather odd. And if Eric goes away wouldn't Donna go with him?? I will be very sad to see this show go!

Default that 70's show!!

I am going to miss it when it goes away, I have been watching it since it has been on the air, but they should end it if ashton and topher want to leave because they cannot be replaced, it will just be weird if topher and ashton aren't there, ya know what I mean.

I will hate to see this funny, inovative show go, but after the two episodes that were on last night, maybe it is time.... OMG they were both lame.... the laughs are waning.... I think the freshness is gone....

In contrast... one of the earlier season episodes in syndication last night was about Kelso on the lookout for UFO's.... when Kelso, Fez, and Hyde are laying in the field looking for UFO's and Leo comes in and lays down next to them... OMG funny stuff.... especially when Leo is going on about his UFO experience with the UFO who had Good Year on it.... The looks Hyde gives him are priceless....
