Default What sitcoms would you buy/not buy on DVD?

With all these TV shows being released on DVD I was, at first, tempted to buy all these season sets for two reasons: 1) The episodes would be uncut, which is something you do not see very often on TV, except for the recent ones and 2) Because I wouldn't have to tape them plus I could watch them whenever I would want to and have them available when a particular show is not on the air. Then I really got to thinking about this. For one thing, it would be really expensive buying them. Another thing I realized was that although there were quite a few shows that I wanted to buy, there were shows that, while I did like them, I felt that they weren't worth paying 30 bucks for. One example would be Green Acres. The first season of this series was recently released on DVD. That is one series that I would want to purchase and keep. This was for the same two reasons I mentioned earlier in this post. Yes the series will air on TV Land in a few months but I wouldn't enjoy it very much because that network chops up their shows. Also, I have only seen a very small handful of episodes and I missed a huge opportunity to watch it when it aired on Nick at Nite during their Block Party Summers marathons that they aired in the late 1990s. It wasn't until several years after then that I became interested in that show.
I stated that there were some series I liked but did not warrant a buy and keep. A show that meets that criteria would be The Simpsons. For one thing, the show can be seen every day (at least where I live) and I have seen a lot of episodes of this series. Not only that, the show hasn't undergone any cuts save for a few small, subtle edits in numerous syndicated episodes. Even with those edits, I don't think it would be enough to warrant a purchase of a season set. Other shows that would meet this criteria would be any show from the 1990s to the present for those same reasons.

Now here are sitcoms that I would purchase season sets of. Note that this includes shows that either have not been released on DVD yet or have been released but are not available in season sets; I would purchase those if I had the opportunity to.

Sanford and Son (while it is true that there are at least two episodes with edits, it isn't bad compared to the butchering of the series by TV Land. Plus every episode of this show makes me laugh, and it takes a lot to get even a small chuckle out of me.)

Green Acres

My Favorite Martian

ALF (I have only seen about two episodes but they were enjoyable enough for me to want to buy this show on DVD. It is currently unavailable in season sets)

Barney Miller

Family Guy (yes this show is from the late 90s but it hasn't been on the air for a long time. Plus it is a funny show that I wish I had watched more often when it was on TV)

All in the Family

The Jeffersons

Mister Ed (I think it's a shame that this show only has a "Best Of" set instead of a season by season set. Hopefully one will come out soon)

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (my favorite show of all-time. I will buy any episode of this show on DVD.)

Soap

Bewitched

My Three Sons

The Lucy Show

Here's Lucy

McHale's Navy

Gomer Pyle, USMC

The Addams Family

The Munsters

Get Smart

The Courtship of Eddie's Father

The Partridge Family

The Odd Couple

Maude

The Bob Newhart Show

Newhart

Chico and the Man (only seasons 1-3, as the 4th season sucked big time)

Laverne and Shirley

Happy Days

Mork and Mindy

The only series I would buy would be Roseanne because it's the only series I feel that strongly about. There are other I might consider, I but I really have better things to spend my money on.

I'm not buying anything that costs a ton of money. They want a small fortune for some of these sets.

Well, sticking to just sitcoms:

Simpsons (except season 1...I wouldn't spend more than $5 for that season). I have 2 & 3. Great stuff. The extras are awesome.

Futurama. I have 1 & 2 and will get 3 when it comes out.

Hogan's Heroes. I have the Columbia House DVDs already.

The New Dick Van Dyke Show. Like that'll ever be released.

The Odd Couple

Full House

My Fav Martian

Courtship of Eddie's Father

And I can't think anymore.

barwars88, like you, I'm a dvd junkie too. Seeing how most (not all) popular movies from the past have been released on dvd, the thing I'm focusing on and looking forward to concerning dvds is television series on dvd. I think I'm interested in most of the titles on your list. My list of everything I'm interested in would be too long for me to post. Just to own certain stuff and be able to watch it whenever I want would be cool. I'm interested in the Starsky & Hutch set that's coming out, Lost In Space, Gilligan's Island, etc. There's stuff I could live without but I still want it all.

I intend to buy EVERY sitcom from the 1950's, 60's and 70's. I'll probably buy most of the sitcoms from the 80's. The shows from the 90's and today that I'm NOT interested in buying are:

Frasier
Mad About You
Malcolm in the Middle
Seinfeld
Any of the HBO original shows

A show that I really WANT is "Wings".

I will buy any one of my favorite television sitcoms IF the individual sets come out as follows: $1 or less per episode.

If the set costs more money per each episode - chances are I won't buy it. If that is the case, I would rather wait and hope the price for the set goes down so that its well worth the money spending.

I ordered "The ALF Files" DVD yesterday from Amazon Canada (it isn't sold here in the U.S.)... and I got it today, I didn't even pay for the special express delivery. I'm so impressed.

Currently, the only TV shows on DVD that I own are "Saved By The Bell" and "ALF." I won't buy more TV show DVD's until the more obscure shows are released.
