Default "read the mind..see the movie"

"ok, you're right. i went through your underwear."

this was a tad of a mystery trying to guess who leaked secrets from a weapons manufacturer.
the funny parts to this is in the dark. only on this show, would two people be doing surveillance using opera glasses instead of binoculars. and when they got caught on the rooftop, dave and maddie jumped off the roof and into a swimming pool in their underwear.
later, we discover that the leak came from the company owners daughter. jealous that she would never gain control of the company because her father looked down on women in business.
john harkins guest starred. he had numerous roles the last couple seasons of "dark shadows". he was psychic, omar gouse here.

Hey, bry.

This is one of those episodes that I truly don't remember. In reading the synopsis, though, I did find one line that really stuck:

David: Hey, can't I come with you?
Maddie: You believe me?
David: No, but I believe in you.
Maddie: That was a terrific thing to say. What does it mean?
David: I have no idea.

It makes me so mad that I can be such a big fan of this show, totally forget some of the episodes, and have no way to refresh my memory! GRRR!!!

~Lauren

BTW: I've got an idea...why don't you rate each episode on a scale of 1-10 after you finish watching? I'll do the same if I remember it.

Thanks so much for the offer, Carina, but I'm holding out for the DVDs. I figure, if I've been able to wait this long, I should be able to wait another 5 or 6 months.

BTW, you don't have to be sorry. It's good to see some old posts being brought back up.

I've heard Bruce Willis say he didn't really "get" the character of David until "The Next Murder You Hear" which I think is probably true. Ok, so "Read the Mind, See the Movie" is just the second episode and I don't think Maddie and David are quite what they would become yet. But there are a couple of highlights in this one for me. I love David playing poker with the guy hooked up to the lie detector. I also love them on surveillance, with Maddie dropping David on his head and later, David's line "If I'd have known this was gonna happen, we could've shopped!" And despite the danger they're in, David is enjoying every minute of watching Maddie undress in front of him before they jump into the pool together.

Cybill + black turtleneck = drop dead gorgeous!

I love the pool scene. The look on David's face as Maddie is undressing is classic.

Plus it includes one of my favorites lines: "wet becomes you". It sure does! IMO a true beauty looks great wet, and Cybill does.

this episode was wonderful because it revealed so very much about david and maddie.
maddie is a hard worker, making cold calls and is very passionate about her work.
i got to see maddie with a man who was her age. and i saw how lush and sexy her life would be without david.
that would be the man she went to dinner with to find out information. and he was wonderful, until he turned down david's offer of a glass of tang.
i loved david explaining what keeps a company young and vital and america strong.
david is a class a jerk. the lie detector game at the end, i totally understand maddie's 'i hate you'
david is also possesive of maddie.
wouldn't let the poker playing guy look her over and looked angry at maddie's date as he walked away.

maddie:
when do you get serious?
david:
when do you lighten up?

these two are in the middle of a power play.
maddie's got a tiger by the tail and david's way over his head. or is it the other way around?
and who's the shrew?
i can't wait to find out.

Tang is a powered orange drink. They used to advertize that 'the astronauts drink it.' (I guess it's supposed to have vitamins in it.)

This was Medium done bad. I was distracted by that. Although Omar Gouse had some hostility in him like the medium on Medium does.

This episode did feel just a bit off. Nevertheless, I am now officially hooked on Moonlighting.

When I read David's shirt and it said "Medicate Me"-I felt this kind of excitement about David--David became exciting for me.

And then David became typical for me during the lie detector test at the end.

I'm going up and down with this show.

from laura:

I can't explain it, but I think that I'm picking up a bunch of things in this episode.

They fight everywhere--public buildings, roof tops.
And you know, David is far more agressive, angier.
And I think I know why--because men I have known have behaved at times like this.

I think it was when Maddie said the line:
'Believe it or not-I can look up a number-dial a phone-and ask for what I want.'
And the person she was going to call is a very sexy, rich guy, a playboy, and David knows it.

Later when the mind reader type of guy asked her if she was 'prone' when the playboy told Maddie something--Maddie said 'I beg your pardon' and David said 'Wait a minute, answer the question'.
And later with the lie detector test when David was being a creep, he wanted to know if she had slept with the playboy.

It's like he's more interested in her than he's comfortable with and Maddie is very intent on her business and very comfortable with the playboy type. She was very soft with the playboy.

On the other side, David is an optimist. An angry optimist. I wonder where that anger is comming from, it's sort of like a feeling of rejection he feels about Maddie, but it seems too soon for it to be just Maddie. What's going on inside of him?

Hi Marla!!

It's interesting that you see anger with David in this episode.. I think all this emotion he's displaying is pure jealousy. He's falling for Maddie and at the very least is VERY attracted to her and doesn't like the idea that she's living any kind of life that isn't to do with him. This jealousy is coming out in his sarcasm and comments he makes....he can't yet tell her how he feels..or even show her...

In the next episode, 'The Next Murder you hear', he gets drunk when he thinks Maddie is falling for a dead guy, and admits he's insecure and thinks if she's gonna fall for someone it ought to be him..

You gotta love this David Addison guy...mmmm

I agree with you Mul - I didn't see David as angry in this episode. But he starts to reveal his attraction towards Maddie and jealousy of other men going out with her by using sarcasm and acting like a bit of a jerk. Not really the way to impress her, but it's cute!
