Question Gert Rides Again

What is so speical about this episode? People are upset because TBS doesn't show it.

It's not my favorite.

Just the fact that they don't show it alone is enough!

Think about it...if you have 129 episodes of your fav'rite show on tape, all but 1, wouldn't it bug you too? lol

Lucikly I started tapin' these about 13 or so years ago in reruns back home, so I have that'un.

And it is a pretty good show!

Exactly.

I started taping in May of last year...Just right before their rollover to the NBC years at the end of May (altho I taped a few here and there beforehand), and I had 129 eps on tape by the time I finished, but I didn't have "Gert Rides Again" and I was DESPERATE to get it on tape...So I had someone make me a copy...Now I have all 130 eps.

How good shape are your tapes now, BTW?

They're alright...some better than others. But all watchable. I could start tapin' off TBS and re-build my collection, but I've just always thought, "eh, I have 'em anyway", lol. But I think I'll start at the next NBC rollover to get 'em even better quality.

If only they'd air the first handful of NBC and syndicated episodes in the order that makes sense!

I taped all the episodes off one of my locals back in 1992. Then when TBS started to air it in the fall of 1997, I taped them all again. I wanted to tape them off of cable, because the pciture is always better on cable channels than on locals I've noticed. The second time around I had cable & a satellite dish both, so I taped them off TBS on my satellite dish & the picture and sound was perfect. Now its been almost seven years & the first set of tapes from 1992 is finally starting to age. I'm thinking about taping them all again, I just can't resist, its one of my all-time favorite shows. Although I always thought & will always think the TV show can't hold a candle to the old family sketches. I hope all of you who have never seen them before, get a chance to see these classic comedy masterpieces on TV Land. I taped all 40-something of the family sketches when they aired on USA a couple years ago. Miss Vicki you are a true Vicki Lawrence fan, I would love to know your opinion of the family sketches.

Hey

I LOVED the "The Family" sketches they showed on TV Land...They showed 17 during the marathon...I'm really hoping they show all the sketches this time around, so that I can have them on tape.

How many tapes did it take for all 130 episodes?

And, why exactly isn't this episode aired? Is it controversial?

Right now I've got 123 on 21 tapes. I've seen the other 7, just either had 'em at one time 'n lost 'em before I made my "master collection" (lol), or hadn't gotten 'em on tape yet.

For me, I taped them in SLP format on 6-hour tapes, so it takes up about 11 tapes. TallGuy did his in SP format, which takes up more tapes.

No, it's not controversial - that's what I thought at the time too. I think it has something to do with TBS not having the rights to that episode...but I still don't understand.

Right! They always show the Hawaiin trip BEFORE the Jeopardy episode! The reason they went to Hawaii is because Mama won the trip! Go figure!

TBS did air this episode during the first two or three rotations back in '97 & '98, because I taped it the first time they aired it.

I'm a big Mama's Family fan (and a Vicki and Carol Burnett fan) and yep, they HAVE aired the episode, but it has been a LONG time since it has aired. I do remember watching the show in 1997 and seeing the episode. I didnt tape anything until 2002 and by then the episode wasn't airing, in fact, I don't think the episode has aired since like 1998, maybe 1999. I didn't keep up with the show the way I did when I was taping it, so I have no clue...

Actually, since I started watching this show on TBS, back in about 99/00, the Jeopardy episode always comes before the Hawaiian eps. The only problem I've noticed with the Hawaiian eps is that they air a different episode in between the 1st and 2nd parts, which totally screws up the continuity if you're watching the whole thing. Other than that, I think they do a good job.

I am also a huge fan of this show and started taping it last year. Unfortunately, I had all the syndicated eps done before I realized that the VCR I was using had dirty heads and the picture degraded in literally months, so I decided to re-do them. I did them this time with a new Sony w/ 19-Micron heads, and they are perfect. You can literally barely tell that they are EP, they're really crisp and clear. (I highly recommend 19-Micron). Anyway, right now, I have almost every ep on 9 tapes. I have about half of the last season done w/out commercials, and am waiting for it to loop around again. Then, I plan on re-recording the NBC eps, then I will be totally done with what TBS airs!

Awesome show, and like Mama says: You can all go straight to hell!

LOL! Just kidding you guys...that has to be my favorite quote though...

That and "you could fry bacon in the nude without a second thought"

Okay, I have no idea what dirty heads are but I don't think my VCR has them because its brand new, but what kind of tapes does anyone recommend for things you tape to actually look like they aired right off TV and to not be grainy? I have high quality tapes and it still looks very grainy.
