Hello all.
New member here! I've been coming into this board and
reading messages for a year and decided it was time to
join. I've been a fan of Wings going back to the first
episode I saw in Jan. 1991.

Regarding "Final Approach" shown the other night. Maybe my
memory is going, but when it was originally aired in 1997,
I could have sworn that they brought back the original
opening theme and credits for that one night.

But when see on Nick recently that wasn't the case. Does
anyone else remember this? Looking forward to being here
as from what I've seen, everyone appears really nice.

Take care,
Doug in Texas

First, welcome Doug! It's always nice to meet new message board posters....especially ones who have been with "Wings" since the NBC network days!

I didn't see "Final Approach" when it was first aired on NBC, but a while ago someone here DID mention what you said about the original opening theme and credits being shown....That must have been a very nice touch.

Something else about that "Final Approach" story (particularly the second part)....after a couple of seasons of straying away from it, the finale seemed to bring back the old "heart" that "Wings" had during it's earlier seasons.

So many things about that finale (the return of Helen's cello, the "heart" of the characters and story...even the final "overhead pan" airport shot, which was similar to the opening airport shot seen in the pilot episode) seemed to be trying to remind the viewers what the "Wings" series had been through the years. It's almost as if they were trying to take the viewers back in time to give them the same feeling watching "Wings" that they USED to have....and it worked. "Final Approach" was the best all-around story that "Wings" had done in a couple of years....and EVERYBODY had a chance to shine in it!

Hello Doug. From what I've read on this message board, I believe Wings did have the opening theme in the final episode. I assume N@N cut it out to make more story time.

Was it the same old or did they computer alter it to show photos with the credits?
Just wondering.

Welcome. It's great to have another fan of "Wings".

I saw the final episode on NBC and I can't remember whether they had the original opening or not. Of course, I didn't watch it that much back then, so I wouldn't have noticed it as being anything special, since I didn't know they changed opening credits. I do remember thinking, "Where's Budd?". Because his first episode was the last one I watched up until the finale. So I had no idea that he left the show, too.

I never saw Final Approach as it was seen on NBC but I have read several messages that said the original opening was intact. So I assume it was the same old.

Well, I know that some TV shows do that in either the whole final season or the last episode.
I was jus' wonderin'.

Default Thanks!

I wish to thank all for the great welcome! One question,is
Wings merchandise still available? Wouldn't mind to have a
hat or shirt with the logo on it. Take care.

Cheers,
Doug

Unless you live in or around Nantucket, I doubt that you'll find any "Wings" merchandise in stores...and I don't even know if it can be found in Nantucket!

However, I would check the eBay site (www.ebay.com), and search for "Wings TV"....or it that gives you too long a list of unrelated items, then try entering the name of one of the "Wings" cast members.
Many times there are really nice "Wings" items from the original NBC days offered for sale on eBay. I've seen things like baseball caps and jackets with the "Wings" logo on them, and these were worn by the "Wings" crew during production. Yes, eBay is probably your best bet. Good luck!

Welcome to the board Doug

I watched the first run of Final Approach on NBC and if my memory's not failing me, they did use the original opening credits for that episode.

Welcome to the boards from me, too, Doug. I'm not on the boards as much as I would like to be, I'm not home much. But I consider myself a true Wingnuts. It's one of my favorite shows, and believe me, my list of my very, very favorite shows is a short one, and Wings is one of them.

Yes, the original theme song and cast credits were shown at the beginning of "Final Approach", like in previous years. I remember because when I was watching it, and they started playing it, I thought, Wow, they brought back that great theme song from the earlier years.
