Ok, I feel really dumb for asking this seeing as how I took piano from 13-16

, but what are Majors and Minors? I completely forgot!!! *sobs* I feel so... ashamed.

A piano major is someone who majors in the study of piano and a piano minor is someone who takes classes in piano, but it isn't their main field of study.

I don't know. The only thing I know about pianos is they make beautiful music. Sorry.

They're types of scales. A major scale is the one that sounds nice..all the notes are in tune. All major scales have relative minors (the sixth note of the scale) and the minor scales are depressing sounding, while the major scales are happy sounding.

There are different sharps and flats that you play for each. For example, in the C Major scale, there arent any sharps or flats, and the C minor scale has 3 flats. (B, E, and A) My old piano teacher made me a chart thing, but I can't find it. Really, the only difference is how the scales are formed. A major scale is made by doing "whole whole half whole whole whole half." (Those are steps, by the way.) Not really sure how to get a Minor scale. Something about raising the 3 and 7 note a half step. I dont know.

I took piano lessons for five years; I quit last year.

Do you guys play, or do you just know a lot about the instrument?

I personally like pieces played in minor better than in major. I dunno...I like music that sounds mysterious.

I've played piano for 9 years now...I love it. I like the SOUND of minor pieces better, but they usually seem harder to play.

Yeah, especially Minuet in G Minor... ahhh it sounds like haunted house music!

And an answer to your question, I taught myself how to play piano. I never bothered with learning the basics, one day I just started teaching myself how to play songs

I should have started out with the basics first though!

Do you play for people, or just for your own pleasure?

I always make that "I wanna play for myself" excuse when people ask me to play for them.

I actually played for tons of people last year at two of our school concerts and an open house. I had about 600 people at the concerts. My music teacher asked me to play again this year.

Dear God, how do I get myself into these things?

BTW: Do you play any other instruments? If you can teach yourself to play, you should try guitar or something!

Nah I'm not good enough to play for people

The piano isn't really my thing.

I also play the Flute/Piccalo (my main instruments) and have played the Clarinet in the past.

Kaffeine Kay, are you sure you're not talking about "Toccata & Fugue in D Minor"? The beginning of that has the haunting organ that is so familiar to everybody when they hear it and it always reminds me of scary & spooky stuff & haunted houses. In any case, I think it's both from J.S. Bach.

In answering David&Maddie's question, I've been playing piano since I was 15. I first started playing clarinet in 5th grade, and then when I started taking piano lessons, I already knew the treble clef notes and I taught myself the bass clef notes, so when I started lessons, I knew my notes, and I remember my teacher asking, "And you've never taken lessons before?" I don't play the clarinet much anymore, in fact, I need to get mine fixed, but I do still play piano. I bought a piano about 7 years ago. It's like a therapy for me. I don't do too much technical stuff anymore, I just play for pleasure.

Yep, I'm sure. The Minuet in minor sounds like an off-key haunted-house kind of music... to me, at least.

I do love the Fugue, though.
