Default David Spade Officially a Regular

David Spade has joined the cast of "8 Simple Rules," which airs TUESDAYS (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Spade -- who joins the show along with previously announced James Garner -- plays C.J., Cate's (Katey Sagal) wayward nephew, who just can't seem to resist getting himself into trouble and offering questionable advice to Bridget (Kaley Cuoco), Kerry (Amy Davidson) and Rory (Martin Spanjers).

Spade is best-known for his role as Dennis Finch on "Just Shoot Me" and as a cast member on "Saturday Night Live." He was last seen in the film "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star," and also starred with "SNL" alumnus Chris Farley in "Tommy Boy" and "Black Sheep." Additional movie credits include "Joe Dirt," "Reality Bites," "Light Sleeper," "Coneheads" and "Lost & Found," for which he also co-wrote the screenplay. He was also the lead voice in the Disney animated film, "The Emperor's New Groove." On television he guest starred on "The Larry Sanders Show" and appeared in HBO's "13th Annual Young Comedians Special."

"8 Simple Rules" stars Katey Sagal as Cate Hennessy, Kaley Cuoco as Bridget Hennessy, Amy Davidson as Kerry Hennessy, Martin Spanjers as Rory Hennessy, with James Garner as Jim and David Spade as C.J.

Tracy Gamble ("Home Improvement," "The Golden Girls"), who created the series, also serves as executive producer, along with James Widdoes, Tom Shadyac ("Bruce Almighty," "Liar Liar," "The Nutty Professor") and Michael Bostick ("Bruce Almighty," "Liar Liar"). The series is based on W. Bruce Cameron's bestselling book, "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter." "8 Simple Rules," which premiered on September 17, 2002, is from Touchstone Television.

James Garner.... great move.
David Spade.... not sure. Seems they may rely on his star power.
He was great on SNL, Tommy Boy and Black Sheep. But Im not a big fan of "Just Shoot Me"

I wonder how it will work out.

I thought David Spade was pretty funny, but this is a huge mistake. I don't like it at all. I guess I'll just have to wait and see, but all I can see is 'The David Spade Show'. Nothing against him, but imo, they didn't need to make him a regular. Popping in every now and then would have been a better move.

not a good idea to have david spade....i like him and all but the show's obviously starting to diminish now that they're having to rely on the star power of david spade...uh oh...

james garner was a good idea for the show cuz they really needed another father figure, but i think adding david spade is just too much!

That makes sense. I don't think the two of them together will equal one Ritter, but that's just me.

Oh man that is totally a bad move. I can stand him on 2 or 3 shows but as a regular I dont know what to think.

James Garner is a good idea because like PinkCutiek said they need a father figure and besides hes a really good actor.

But neither of them could ever replace John Ritter.

i guess we will have to watch and find out... I imagine he won't be as big of a character as Jim but I think he'll jst be popping in occasionaly for the rest of the season but I really don't think it's anything to worry about, just watch and show support

Hmm...guess I'm alone here. I like David Spade and thought he was great in the last ep. He's definately not replacing John...not even close...but I do like it that he's a regular now.

I like David Spade. I think he's a good addition to the cast.

Default This should be positive

I think it is a positive move to add David Spade to the cast. Spade brings more humor to the show, and can bring a larger audience to the show through his fans. I do not think it will become the 'David Spade Show' because he will be a part of an ensemble cast, just as he was on 'Just Shoot Me'. The show has good writers, and they will make sure that the focus remains on the entire family, not just David Spade. I do not think that David Spade is a self-centered, or self-absorbed actor who would demand that he be the focus of the show. If he did this, I am sure that they would not have signed him on as a regular. With the addition of James Garner and David Spade the cast has just become a larger family, and that is the focus of the show-family. The show has never relied on focusing on one individual, and this will continue. There is nothing to worry about.

Well, I think this is a good idea, he is one of the funniest people out there and he really didn't have any jobs at hand plus the ratings will go up I say its a good idea, I didn't think it was that good of an idea when James became and regular but I gave him a chance and he fits perfect.

I never was a fan of his and I never liked Just Shoot Me. However he was good in the last episode and I am willing to give him a chance.
