Default Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Has anyone seen Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Either the play or film. I heard of this film a year ago (I think it may have been something to do with Natalie Wood and the play maybe)- and looked it up recently (after being reminded of it watching 'The Hours'). Anyway- I saw the trailer, read the reviews, and just bought a copy online. But I haven't received it yet. In the meantime- have any of you seen the film- and what did you think?

Thumbs up

I've seen the 60s movie with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. I loved it. It's quite dramatic. Sandy Dennis and I want to say George Peppard co-star. Not sure on him.

There is some great verbal sparring between Liz and Dick. I think they were playing their hard drinking, fighting real selves.

I'd just watched a documentary about Taylor and Burton before seeing the trailer and thought 'Taylor and Burton beating the crap out of each other- what's new?'- maybe it was the first sign of reality tv.

Why doesn't Liz Taylor work anymore? She's always in the top 20 best actresses lists, but never really works. I know she's probably semi-retired (she occassionally does a little work) because of her back pains, but she was a great actress. I guess that when you take a break in movies for a while people forget you're there and you get less offers. I wonder how many offers the average hollywood star gets a day...

I watched Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf again, and now I get what most of it is about. It's a brilliant film, mainly because of the many witty lines (I loved the part with Martha dancing talking about George's book). Is the play ever done much now? I'd love to see it on stage. I'll probably buy the book of the play, or get it out of the library when I get the chance.

Actually it was George Segal. I've seen the movie myself after becoming a fan of Sandy Dennis during the 1990's, which was about several months or so after her death and WABC Ch. 7 decided to run "Up the Down Staircase" one saturday night. FYI: At the time "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" was being shown on stage, Sandy was the female lead in "A Thousand Clowns."

I just read on bootlegbetty.com and several other sites that Bette Midler, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, Glenn Close and Charlize Theron are all being considered for a remake! But, get this, the sites says Charlize and Bette are up for the same role (I'd say it'd be Bette and Glenn)- Martha is like 52, and theron is 29! I think Theron's probably being considered to play Honey.

She's been terribly ill, on and off, for her whole life, but especially for the last 10 (?) or so years. When I have seen her on awards shows, she doesn't seem to have much short term memory and seems very scattered. She forgot her own shoes at Liza Minelli's wedding for petesake! She did have a brain tumour, and I think she's heavily medicated. This, and her age, are probably keeping her happily in retirement. She shouldn't have to work anymore. People get to a place where they either retire totally or are coaxed back for cameos. She was so cute in The Flintstones. And then she did that movie with Debbie Reynolds...I liked that too. Then she kind of vanished and the health problems came back.
