Hey everyone, this is my first post here. I have been a big fan for years. So glad I found this board. Well anyway, does anyone remember the episode with the preacher who disapeared when his wife went to visit her family. He was spotted at a drug store buying ice cream sandwiches and cigars, and at a gas station where the guy gave him wrong directions. I felt really bad that his wife passed away before she could see him again. I know he was very old when he disapeared in 1985 so he would probably be dead now. Does anyone know if they found his remains? Or does anyone remember this episode? This one was really heartbreaking.
See you later. |

Either you're mixing up cases, or there's an interesting UM coincidence going on.
The Joe Owens case I know is of the Seattle retired real estate business owner shooting his elderly wife Gladys and burying her in his compost box in March of 1989. Three months later when Gladys was reported missing, Joe called his nephew and said that he was diagnosed with cancer and he was going to kill himself, and that Gladys had OD'ed on pills three months before. He then disappeared and was last seen going up some mountain. The case was aired in February 1990 when Joe was still missing, but his remains were found up the mountain two months later. But the case you're talking about is very familiar and I've discussed it here at least twice. I remember it well but I can't remember the man's name. As a UM fan it'd be pretty weird if his name was Joe Owens too. Remember how his car was found in the forest with branches in the backseat? I have no idea if they've found his remains or not. Personally, I doubt it.

The name of the elderly minister that disappeared is George Owens. That case hasn't been updated.
Joe Owens is the one who shot his wife, buried her, and later commited suicide. |

Yes, that is such a hearbreaking case. I think him and his wife had been married 67 years and this one of the few times they had been apart (his wife went to visit relatives). Its also interesting how George's entire life was changed just because the man who fixed his tire for him misunderstood the town he was trying to get to and gave him the wrong directions. I don't really think there was foul play involved in this case, I just figured he started walking to find help and had a heart attack or something (he was in his 80's). As for the sticks in his car, maybe he was gathering them to start a fire, or he could have been disoriented and for some reason started gathering them.

Yeah that episode still saddens me everytime I see it. Thank you for clearing up the name I was watching the episode the other day. I have it on tape. That and Gordon Page are the 2 saddest cases.
