OT- Frasier to end its run this season. - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I just read that Frasier will be ending in May after all. I think I might watch the finale. I liked Frasier at first, but I lost interest after Wings ended. Wings was the better of the two shows in my opinion, even though it never got the praise, awards, and critical acclaim that Frasier did.

I wonder if Frasier's departure will be a big event or if it will be overshadowed by the series finale of Friends (Good riddance, IMHO.)

Also, I wonder what NBC will be doing for next season now that they are losing their two most popular sitcoms in May. I hope Scrubs gets more attention now

I love that show. It's the only current NBC sitcom I watch. (They even mentioned Wings in an episode. Dr. Cox finds Antonio hilarious. He's a smart doctor.) NBC has been doing to Scrubs what they did to NewsRadio

I know Friends is spinning off that awful Joey character into a sitcom of his own

I know I shouldn't judge a show without watching it first, but I know I'm not going to like this one. Chandler is the only character on Friends I ever found funny and tolerable. He's the one who should have his own show, with a much better selection of friends.

I love "Scrubs" too! I haven't seen every episode. but I try to watch it every week. It's soooo funny. Dr. Cox and JD are my favorite characters. hehe

The ending of "Frasier" isn't really "Off-topic" since that series is the last surviving link to the "Cheers-Wings-Frasier" sitcom tie-in.

I'm really going to miss Frase, Niles, Daphnie and the rest of the group.
I LOVED that show as a kid (hey, I was a weird kid and I'm an even weirder young adult). I watched the VH1 'Frasier' special everytime it came on (anybody besides me remember that?).
At one time I also wanted a 'Frasier' coffee cup that was at Spencer's Gifts (alas, I never got it

).

Now I'm going to have to find a new, intellectual sitcom to cling on to... (ThomasHadenChurchneedsasitcom [gasp] NOW!).

You know, I never got into "Frasier". My Dad watched the show for it's first few seasons, but then pretty much quit watching primetime network shows. So I won't miss the show, however I think it's a big deal since Kelsey has played the character for twenty years.

I just really hope for some quality sitcoms in the coming years. That's why N@N and TV Land are doing so well, because people can't stand the current crap and are looking into shows of the past.

TVAdam- I never really got into "Frasier" either. Recently, I've been watching the reruns once in a while. but it's not a show that I'd watch regularly.

It's interesting to note how "Frasier" leaves some people cold...and many of those people are big "Wings" fans.....

Hmmm...same creators and production staff, same excellence of writing.....

I think the big difference is that "Frasier" has characters that although funny, are rather cold, formal or caustic, and just can't be warmed up to as people.

While "Wings" features characters that we can truly like and even consider as friends or family, "Frasier" has characters that we really wouldn't want to have spend a lot of time with! (Except for Frasier's dad...HE'S a cool guy!).

Frasier is one of my favorite shows. However it is in it's 11th season. I'm glad it's ending it's run. Some episodes this season have been great. Others such as the one that aired last night while still a couple of laughs falls a little flat. In fact last night's episode "the Ann Who Came to dinner" reminds me alot of the episode of Wings titled "the Houseguest" woman goes to Frasier's home hurts her leg, Frasier afraid she's going to sue lets her stay at his home till she gets better woman becomes annoying. Sound Familiar. Wings did it alot better imo.

Without a doubt it will be completely shoved aside for the "Friends" hooplah.
At a recent press conference at the TV Critics Association, Grammer expressed some displeasure at the way "Frasier" has been treated over the years. Saying "It will be more of a cultural phenomenon for 'friends' to leave than it will be for 'frasier.'"

You watch the promos on NBC, and they're counting down how many eps are left until "friends" leaves us forever. I haven't seen any promos about this being "Frasier's" final season.

I mean, his movies haven't been excellent lately, they're OKAY... but I really badly want to see him in a sitcom, or at least visit Ellen's show (I'd like to see Thomas and Ellen get wacky together, it would be amusing).

actually, on "Frasier", the one character who I really like is Roz. I think she's wicked cool.

One thing I've noticed with quite a few Cheers fans is that the ones who love the Diane years better seem to prefer Frasier to Wings and the ones who love the Rebecca years better seem to prefer Wings to Frasier. I know it's not always the case. Just something I noticed. I prefer the Rebecca years of Cheers and Wings over Frasier and the Diane years of Cheers.

I know I've said it before and I'll say it again. I have never understood the appeal of Friends at all. I have the same feelings about the ending of Friends that Wings haters had when Wings ended: "It's about freakin' time!"

I know a lot of people love Friends and I respect that, but it's not a show that I have ever enjoyed watching. Give me Wings any day of the week.
