This episode involved Jerry's girlfriend apparently living with some 'dude' named Lyle who was seen walking around in a towel. I never understood what was going on with this guy, and it really did not seem to have much to do with the story line anyway which involved Jerry and George teaming up to keep the one girl happy. Anyone know or have any ideas what that guy was doing in the episode?

Jerry asked her if Lyle was gay, and she said no in a playful way (can't remember the quote) that seemed to suggest that she was sleeping with Lyle. I guess he was in the episode to confuse Jerry as to why his date has a dude in her apartment, but is going out with Jerry too. Whatever the reason, it's funny as hell.
Lyle - "Hey Jer, what's up?" Jerry - "I have absolutely no idea." |

Now that I think about it, you're right. That guy kinda didn't fit the storyline. It should've been enough that Jerry and George had to team up to keep one girl happy.

Exactly, I was waiting for him to be tied in, but it just didnt seem to work. Kind of like I was waiting for some explanation as to why his one girlfriend wore that skirt outfit all the time, or what was wrong with his girlfriend that Kramer/George hated and his parents loved.

Comedy are like gossamer and one doesn't dissect gossamer... ah. hemm.....
It's merely a commentary on contemporary mores... It's a slice of life... Pun?... Vorshtein?... === But really, I figure it's one of Jerry's relationship bits.... kind of like "So what's the deal with platonic relationships?" It's the main joke theme of the ep. Short of his friendship with Elaine, Jer usually has the male (including himself) made out to be a cro-magnon driven by man's most basic instincts, with the most primal being the hunt for sex... thus, any type of male/female relationship that is strictly platonic, is mind boggling to him, as evidenced by his expressions upon seeing The Dude at Lanett's apartment. It's like he's thinking "how can this be?" ... "people say it's done.... they act normal...." but Jerry is laughing & is not buying it for a minute. Now matter what the gal is thinking, Jer knows the ultimate motive that drives The Dudes. That's why he's The Dude. That's how The Dude is, was and will be. ![]() There is also that element of George & Jerry being half men. |

That's Maestro for you. He sees things as they are and says, no, wait, uh, he sees things, do you see things as they are ... (owed to The Limo)
