Thumbs down The killing of Snowball 2 (and the other cats)

Now, I am NOT a cat lover. I also know The Simpsons is a cartoon and I've never taken anything on the show seriously before. However, I thought the way they killed off Snowball 2 and the other cats that the family bought on last night's episode was sick and twisted and not funny at all. I think the show has really sunk to another new low.

I agree. I wasn't laughing at all. Losing a pet is devastating and that is something that should not be made fun of.

I didn't mind all the killing... but I hated the way they decide to forget it like they did with Principal Skinner's real identity.

I thought this was a pretty funny episode and one of my favs so far this season! I was LMAO during the cat scenes and I don't think it was sick or offensive. And it's not like it made a big change in the show, she got another cat that looked exactly like snowball I and II. I loved the part with Marge breaking down over her hamster dying thou! LOL

Actually, Snowball 1 was white. That's why it's so funny that they named the second cat, who's black, Snowball 2, a white cat's name.

I thought it was the best part of the episode. It was hilarous, especially if you've been through stuff like that. And I thought the joke with Skinner was pretty funny too. Grow a sense of humor. It's a cartoon, it's not like they actually killed a cat.

Hmm, is that what the Simpson writers do when they can't think of another story line? Kill another character?

I missed it. But why on earth would they kill Snow Ball 2?

Did we ever see Snow Ball 1 on the show? The first episode of the Simpson's ever aired was the Christmas episode "Simpson's roasting on an open fire." In that episode, Marge is writing the family's Christmas newsletter and mentions that Snow Ball got hit by a car and died so they got a new cat, Snow Ball 2. A few years later in a Halloween episode, Lisa mentions who the driver was but I can't remember the name.

I'm guessing Snow Ball 1 was just in the short clips when the Simpson's were characters on the Tracy Ulman show? Because I don't remember seeing her in any of the regular episodes.

In any case, I just lost my dog of 15 1/2 years just a couple days ago and the last couple of days have been pretty hard. I guess I'm kind of glad I missed this episode.

Sorry about your dog. Wasn't Snowball I ran over by the mayor's beer-swilling brother Clovis?

i thought that was the best part of the episode. If you didnt think it was funny, than you have to think of it as a cartoon and that theyre not really dying. the point of it was that everything dies around Lisa. I did think it was stupid with the Snowball V = Snowball II, Principal and the Pauper was bad enough. But, this episode was funny, nonetheless.

The truth is, anyone can find anything IN anything that offends them, and this didn't particularly bother me even though I have lost a pet--a cat even--that hit me pretty hard.

I don't mean to sound insensitive to those of you who have lost pets (I've lost a couple myself*sob*), but the way Thelonious jumped out the window when Lisa played her saxaphone just cracked me up!! (yeah, yeah, I know...I'm going to hell...still, heeheeheehee)

You won't go to hell for that. Lisa , on the other hand, is quite clearly bound for hell!

I agree. A long time ago I saw this episode and thought the whole plot with the cats dying was ridiculous. A pet dying is one of the heart-wrenching experiences a person can go through. The thing they should have done instead of having Lisa buy all the cats she did was to have her grieve over it for some of the episode then maybe get the look alike cat at the end. All the same though I think this was definitely a daring move on their part. They took a very serious matter and trying to make a joke out of it is not easy to do they should have just left things alone and done something else instead.
