I voted Wizard of Oz. I love Return to Oz- the 80's ness of it, the darkness and the 'Tim Burton' feel to it- I loved the clay animations but- I just love the Wizard of Oz too. The music and songs in the first one were great! I liked that the second one stayed closer to the books (I'd love to see someone direct lkive action, 100% faithful versions of all of Baums Oz books). But- in the second one, with the yellow brick road destroyed (that annoyed me) and dorothy a supposed maniac! I just couldn't betray The Wizard of Oz- no matter how much I like the sequel. The Wheelers in Return to Oz are creepy- but cool!

Neither

The Wiz blows them both out of the water.

I voted Wizard Of Oz. I like them both, but you can't mess with a classic.

I've never seen The Wiz, but after seeing the trailer I have to see it sometime! It looks really bizaare and it's an interesting idea- maybe someone else will redo the idea sometime. But- I'd always wondered why Michael Jackson never did movies while he was young- most pop stars at the time did movies just to profit on the fame- and continue to do so today. I'd thought he must've done at least one film- so I searched imdb and found The Wiz. I can understand today how he'd be difficult to cast- but I'd like to see MJ do a film sometime.

The Wheelers are probably the most evil creations put into a film aimed at children- they're so frightening and surreal. We talk about them occassionally in school- Return to Oz was so dark wasn't it- but the Nome King was the best! And is this film- the Ruby slippers are actually slippers!

Return to Oz, which was based on three books by L. Frank Baum manages to be much closer to the series than the 1939 film. I have to be loyal to Return to Oz because it did a much better job of preserving Baum's stories than the original movie.

Don't get me wrong, I love Judy Garland and I can't help but love the original movie, but it is simply raping Baum's book. (For example, there are absolutely no mentions of rainbows anywhere in the books, and Oz was most certainly NOT a dream!)

I couldn't stand The Wiz. I'm from Detroit, I like Diana Ross, but that movie made me want to kill myself

And then there's the very-little-seen cartoon adaptation of The Wizard of Oz from 1982 with Aileen Quinn (remember Annie?) as Dorothy. Really crummy animation, but the most loyal adaptation I've ever seen.

Wizard of Oz. I've seen Return to Oz a few times - but Wizard of Oz is much better IMO.
