In that T.V. Land never aired the last four episodes of Square Pegs, I have never seen them. However, I read over in some other forum that the last two episodes were so differnet from the first 18, that they were like episodes from a different series. Could someone pease help out and tell me what was so different about episodes 19 and 20 ("No Joy in Weemawee" and "The Arrangement")? I know that "No Joy in Weemawee" was about Johnny being asked to join the Los Angeles Dodgers. and that one does sound a bit diiferent in that I can never imagine Johnny actually playing a sport. "The Arrangement" I read dealt with Patty tutoring Vinnie so that they can be invited to a party held by the popular kids. This sounds like a Square pegs episode. So I would appriciate someone filling me in on what was so differnt about the last two episodes, if they were even that different at all.

Could someone, anyone, please respond to my above post? Since TV Land never aired the last four episodes of Square Pegs I am really curious to know what was so different about the last two episodes. Anyone who could please fill me in, I will be very greatful. Also, does anyone know if Square Pegs is or is not going to be released on DVD? This is one show which deserves to be out on DVD.

The last two shows --the very last one in particular-- I've always liked a lot.
If anything, the last two shows were a step up in quality from the previous three or four shows (which weren't bad, just kind of boring). The idea of Johnny being a super good baseball player and having Steve Sax visit after reading one of Patty's articles in the school paper was pretty ridiculous, but the whole series was littered with that sort of proposterous thing. The baseball episode in particular illustrates what I think appeals to a lot of people about the show because it represents what the majority of us went through in high school: you're the not-so-popular kid and you're just waiting for that moment when you can finally be accepted because some sort of social miracle happens. The last episode is one of my personal favorites and it really showed promise but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. An interesting piece of trivia about the last episode: the guy who's with the band that played at Jennifer and Vinny's party knocks on Johnny's door in the last scene of the episode and asks, "Is the Slash man home? We just played a gig down the street and we're looking a place to mellow out," is the same guy who plays Devo's roadie at Muffy's Bat Mitzvah. ~Austin |

Dax, I wrote this summary for No Joy in Weemawee. I hope it's helpful and makes sense.
I'll try to write a summary for The Arrangement soon. No Joy in Weemawee begins with Patty in the school's news room typing a story about Johnny's rising baseball career. This leads into her acting as a narrator (via a voice over) for a majority of the episode while we (the audience) see what's been going on in the past tense. Kinda like The Wonders Years, but not as deep - Johnny whose only experience with baseball has been watching "The Bad News Bears" is at a school baseball game when Vinnie teases him about not being able to play baseball. He dares him to try it. Johnny hits every ball Vinnie throws and everyone is blown away by Johnny's ability to knock all the balls out of the park. Vinnie gets jealous when Mr. Donovan makes Johnny the school's destinated batter. Mr. Donovan tries to comfort Vinnie by telling him he should save his arm for pitching. LaDonna doesn't have a big part in this episode, but Muffy ropes Jennifer into cheerleading. Jennifer (of course) hates it and they fight during one of the games. Patty continues to crank out wild stories about Johnny's victories while Lauren thinks of ways to transfer Johnny's popularity to herself and Patty. Patty is working on her latest story when Mr. Donovan stops by the news room and reminds her that Johnny isn't the only member of the team. The voice over stops after that scene and we're shown Johnny and the gang at an away game in the present tense. At the away game, Steve Sax of the Dodgers, drops by to see Johnny play because he's read Patty's articles in the school newspaper. After meeting Steve, the gang daydreams about hanging out with him and the Dodgers. Patty doesn't have glasses in her daydream, Lauren is carried on their shoulders, Marshall is a famous film director and Johnny finds the prize in a Cracker Jack Box. Johnny misses every pitch and leaves the field to hide in the locker room. The gang plus Mr. Donovan find him and he tells them that he didn't feel the same playing away as he did playing at home. He liked playing at the school because he knew everybody and everything was familiar. Steve comes into the locker room and tells him he shouldn't give up, but Johnny decides that he only wants to play at the school. Mr. Donovan says that at least they will win 50% of their games. The episode ends with Steve declining Lauren's invitation to a party and the girls thinking of another way to become popular.

Here's my summary of The Arrangement: This episode begins in the girls' restroom. Patty and Lauren are chatting about why God created cuticles and Lauren's chewed fingernails when Jennifer and LaDonna walk in. LaDonna asks Jennifer what's going on Friday night. Jennifer tells her that Vinnie is throwing her a surprise party for their six month anniversary in his parents' rec room. The surprise is that his parents don't know anything about it. Jennifer makes an insulting remark about Lauren's sweater and she and LaDonna leave. The Nielson Company selects Johnny to be apart of their TV ratings study and Muffy becomes a gossip columnist for the school newspaper. Muffy's first assignment is to write about Vinnie's party. Johnny invites Patty and Lauren to his house to watch TV with him and Marshall on Friday night. The girls accept, but Lauren warns them that she will be very down because she rather go to Vinnie's party. Later at The Grease, Vinnie tells LaDonna and Jennifer that the party is off unless he passes his next math test. His parents won't give him the key to the rec room if he fails. Vinnie leaves and Patty walks in. LaDonna invites her to their table and they ask her to tutor Vinnie. The tricky part is that they want Patty to tutor Vinnie without anyone knowing, including Vinnie. Patty will only tutor Vinnie if Jennifer and LaDonna agree to treat her and Lauren like human beings and invite them to the anniversary party. Jennifer and LaDonna agree to Patty's terms, but only for ONE week. Patty tells Vinnie that she's worried about the upcoming math test and asks him to help her study. Vinnie agrees. Lauren unaware of the arrangement is pleased about her new friendship with Jennifer and LaDonna. Her friendly duties include lending LaDonna a quarter, letting Jennifer use her blush and standing in line for Jennifer while she shops. Muffy wants to join Johnny and Marshall on the radio. They decline, but change their minds when they find out that Patty and Lauren are going to the party without them. They agree to be Muffy's soundmen if she takes them to the party. Patty struggles with the decision to tell Lauren about the arrangement she has made with Jennifer and LaDonna. Vinnie passes his math test and the party's on! At the party, a band called Jimmy and the Mustangs plays. Patty doesn't feel as honored to be at the party as Lauren does. Jennifer declares that "Geek Week" is officially over after Muffy, Johnny and Marshall show up with recording equipment. Lauren finds out the truth. Patty, Lauren, Johnny and Marshall watch TV at Johnny's. Jimmy and the Mustangs drop by to see their good friend, Johnny Slash. |
