Thumbs down Disappointed in DVD by ClassicTV

I figured I would give these a try but DVD quality they are not. There are color episodes that are in black and white. Also a scene in Ghost Town was cut out with Rick singing two songs. Another episode named The Big Dog on the DVD is actually an episode called The Shaggy Dog. I opened the one disk and browsed the disk, never opened the second disk. I have better quality on my 15 year old VHS tapes and also the original color episodes than this DVD set has. Dave Nelson, if you're reading this please get these episodes released on DVD. A box set would be great with all 435 episodes using real DVD quality.

I agree. The quality of those DVD's is pretty lousy, and all the musical numbers with Rick were deleted. Plus, episodes that were aired in color are in black and white.

Still, lousy "Ozzie" is better than no Oz. But David Nelson really should go about providing quality prints of this wonderful program on DVD. Hopefully there's enough of a demand for these poor quality DVD's that he or someone else will find the incentive to release the program.

Default DVDs

I agree with you guys that the DVDs are pretty poor quality, and I hate it that all Rick's singing was deleted. Some of the show endings seem to have been cut off too. We do need new color versions where possible. Does Dave still have the rights to the show? I thought they were sold to Universal or some other org.

Default Also disappointed

All the DVDs we've seen are of very poor quality - blurry pictures and cut-off shows. David, if you're reading this, please do what you can to get these wonderful shows out in the quality they deserve.

Default Box set from Amazon?

Im just starting my collection of O&H. I have 10 eipsodes from the TV Classics people and I agree the quality is not great. I saw an 8-disc edition on Amazon for $69. It's 490 mins. Does anybody know if this one is worth the investment? Tom

Default Are tapes bes?

I gather from those of you who have been collecting longer than I have, that dvds are to be avoided and to collect episodes on tape?

Default Quality Of O&H Shows ON DVD

I think the problem is , that most of the shows available on VHS & DVD are old " Public Domain " prints. These old 16mm prints have been passed on from TV station to TV station for 30 years. Back when Disney ran the show in the 80's, I noticed the prints were much cleaner. Basically, the show needs to be restored from it's original 35mm negatives. Does anyone know if David inherited the negatives as part of the Nelson estate when Harriet passed away?

I wouldn't invest a large amount of money into any of the DVD sets out now.

Default Quality Of DVDs

I don't know. Sometime you just take your chances and buy a DVD at a time . Some look better than others. Back when WHT network ran the series ,circa 1999-2002, the prints could be very ratty, but they all were complete. " The Ghost Town " ep has Ricky in cowboy costume singing two songs. I'm glad I have it on VHS from WHT Network because the version I have from " Platinum DVD " had the numbers cut out. Somewhere..sometime, the owner of that particular print cut the songs out so the distribution company wouldn't have to pay song royalties. It's sad, but a lot of owners of those shows will cut out the numbers to keep from paying song royalties to the writers or estate. That was probably done long ago and by the time " Platinum Home Video " and other companies aquired the prints, the damage had already been done. As I mentioned in an ealier post, it would be a herculian task, but the series needs to be restored from the original prints.

Genius Entertainment's DVD of the show has Ricky singing Glory Train in "David's 17th Birthday." I've only seen this DVD at Target. I don't know of any other DVDs with Ricky singing.

I got some DVD set at wal mart for like 4 dollars and it has twenty episodes on it. I didn't think it was that bad I think the company Platinum makes it or some name like that.

Ozzie & Harriet Vol. 3, from Television Classics (made by Genius Entertainment), has Ricky singing "I Will Follow You" on the episode "Rick and the Bridesmaid", and Ricky sings another song on the episode "Rick Grows A Beard". I found this DVD for $1 at my local Dollar Tree dollar store. It's a good DVD. The copy of "Rick and the Bridesmaid" on this DVD is a lot better than the copy used on Platinum Disc Corporation's 20 episode set. But I would like to have season sets.

So far I spent $9 on 32 episodes. Not bad.

I was upset at one DVD I got but only paid 1.00 at Toys R Us, the theme music was all diff. and the narrator was not the same one in the opening. Weird.

I bought the Classic TV DVD set about 3 1/2 years ago. What I thought was cheesey about it was they didn't provide titles. So I just watched & matched them up with the episode descriptions at a website. Time consuming but it worked out in the end.

Even a schlockily produced set like this was good, though, cause I got to see new episodes.
