Playing Scott Peterson 'Surreal' -- Cain
Dean Cain -- who stars as Scott Peterson in USA Network's February- airing "A Perfect Husband: The Laci Peterson Story" -- says playing the accused murderer at the same time Peterson's real trial was underway turned out to be surreal at the very least.
"We started filming the same day the preliminary hearing started," recalls Cain. "When we were finishing day four, I'd go home at night and flip on CNN and hear 'The Laci Peterson Trial: Day Four.' You're like -- 'Wait a minute, is it the trial or my shooting schedule?' It was really rather strange."

The former "Lois and Clark" star says he did not play Peterson "as guilty. I played him as innocent as possible although there were a few times where I knew he was lying. I've seen lots of tapes of him where he seems very rehearsed, very scripted and he comes off very aloof. There are times when you really can't read him. If I've done my job correctly, you come away from it going 'I just don't know,' because I don't know."

Cain says there was no one on the set from the late Laci Peterson's family during shooting. "And I wouldn't have wanted anybody to be, really. I hope that the family and everybody involved don't feel that we've infringed on their lives or that we've depicted them in a negative fashion or incorrectly. They have enough going on that they have to deal with. Hopefully we did a fair job in our representation of it."

He adds, "I'll tell you what was just weird, was to see photos of Laci and Scott together with my face photoshopped over his. When we did the candlelight vigil there was a real picture of Laci there. It was difficult. I was happy to shed that skin after the film ended."

I knew Scott Peterson reminded me of someone. God, I was trying to figure it out for such a long time. And now I know. lol. But I think he'll make a good Scott peterson too.
