Default Need some FTP Help please

I have not used my FTP program since about....15 months ago and I have completey, and I mean completely, forgotten how to use it.

Can someone give me a refresher, PLEASE before I throw my computer through the wall?

I've got my domain information, etc but I can't remember how to even get my main page to show up.

Very VERY frustrated, HELP.

I use CuteFTP also.

Click on File then Quck Connect. Then in url type in your ip address or domain name (like ftp.sitcomsonline.com), then type in your username and password and it should be on port 21.

To get your main page to show up you would need to upload an index.html or index.htm file.

I dont even have a "FILE" option at the top, the first one is FTP.

I have all my files showing in the left side of my screen, from my hard drive, and I transferred them over the right side but I maybe dont have it set up right yet? Like the connection wizard or something?

I have all the information my server sent me, the IP, etc, but I dont understand the FTP client thing or that stuff.

It's very frustrating because I had it before and could run it like I run anything. Now I can't remember squat.

It keeps saying

Connecting to ....com

Can't connect

Connecting to....com

Can't connect

Over and over and over.

Does that mean it can't find it?

When I try and load my index page (the index.html is already in the right side window, so it's there) I get redirected (with 100 pop ups) to a random search page.

I have missed something somewhere in the setup.

I'm so frustrated I could cry.

If it's not connecting, you might not have your information entered correctly or perhaps the server is down.

On the right side on the pull down bar right above where all the files are it just says www. and then nothing.

Somewhere I have not put in my server name but I dont know where to put it or what to put.

When I run that Site Wizard, where I have to put the information, I don't know what to put in the section where it asks my FTP Host Address or FTP Site User ID/Password. I have nothing entered in those.

Could that be the problem? I don't know what to put there.

Running the site wizard:

Enter a label - like "My Site"
The FTP address is either your ip address or domain name like ftp.sitcomsonline.com - do not use something like www.sitcomsonline.com - that won't work
Then enter your password and username

I'm sorry if I seem so dense. I did this once, I know I can do it again...I'm just really rusty.

The password/Username I enter is the one THEY sent me, right?

The FTP site I add would be ftp.mysite.com

Right?

Correct, I am assuming you have your own domain name and not a subdomain of another site.

Yes I have my own domain name.

It will not connect...it just keeps going and going when I try and do that Site Wizard.

But if I hit the "connect" button at the top it connects me, but it won't let me show any part of my site.

Does what I'm saying make any sense? I'm so incredibly frustrated right now I can't even stand myself

All of my files are transferred...they are all on the right (and left) side.

But above the files on the right (the FTP) side it just says www....there is nothing there. Shouldn't it be www.mysite.com?

Also

This is listed at the bottom of the email they sent me. What does this mean?

IMPORTANT!!!
Please change the DNS/Name Server Info of your domain to:
Domain servers in listed order:
ns1.serve80.com 64.numbers
ns2.serv80.com 64.changed

(I changed the numbers so they dont' show here, I dont know what they mean).

Who is your webhost, are you paying for is it on one of the free webservers? Sometimes they cancel inactive accounts and if you haven't logged in for 15 months maybe they deleted your account.

If you can actually connect, try clicking on the folder and maybe it will take you back to the main folder.
