Exclamation Helen Seinfeld and James Dean

I caught part of Larry King tonight and they were talking about James Dean with like 5 people sitting with Larry. One of them was Liz Sheridan, aka Mrs. Seinfeld. Turns out she dated James Dean, lived with him, and he proposed to her. I guess she didnt except, although I dont know. Hard to imagine Helen Seinfeld and James Dean being 'hot and heavy'.

I didn't see that. Usually surf by L. King & take a look if I'm on the boob tube.
Interesting... now I have another catagory to reference Seinfeld... the James Dean connection.
Good one G.

Hey G-
You should see if you can find a JD era or an early pic of her.

She wrote a book about their relationship called Dizzy & Jimmy. Here is a link to it from her site:

I wonder what she looked like when she was younger? Dean was a hottie for his time, so Liz must've been a knockout.

I just checked this book out from the library yesterday and I cannot wait to read it! Should be interesting!

^ Liz Sheridan was also very good friends with Elizabeth Montgomery (and even attended the ceremony for EM's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame earlier this year). I'd heard that she'd dated James Dean, but I didn't know that she'd written a book. I'd love to hear your thoughts, Andrea, once you're done reading it!!!

Okay, so I finished reading the book today and I'm going to be completely honest. It started out as being very interesting. She talked about how they met in the parlour of this house she was living in. At the time she was a dancer and she was staying in this house (kind of like a dorm I guess) so that she could go out and do auditions and so forth.

She and "Jimmy" sounded like they were two kids in love that liked to have fun. They would sing and dance in public and joke around all the time.

One thing bothered me about this book though in that it was full of dialog. Now, if I were writing a memoir, I wouldn't be able to remember word for word in-depth conversations I had back in the 1950's. Even if it was with James Dean. I just found that the book read more like a story that someone made up.

After a while I started to get a little board (which was toward the end) because it literally follows their relationship day by day. One thing is for sure. You should probably get all images of the neighbor on "Alf" and "Helen Seinfeld" out of your head when reading this because she divulges some pretty intimate details. Some of it made me a little uncomfortable to read.

All in all it was an okay book, but I was a little disappointed in it as a whole. Maybe just because I'm not into James Dean and would have been more interested in reading about her roles in TV and so forth.

I'd be glad to offer any more thoughts if anyone is interested or has any questions about the book.

Andrea

^ Thank you for sharing your insights about the book, Andrea. I know Liz Sheridan was very good friends with Elizabeth Montgomery (Bewitched). Does she mention EM anywhere in the book?

No, and actually that is one of my complaints about the book. It was ALL about "Jimmy" and their relationship. The only other personal things she mentioned were things about her parents and about her dancing career. I wanted to learn more about her and her career, because I don't care for James Dean that much. Then again, the book is called Dizzy and Jimmy.

Oh, a bit of trivia... the reason she calls herself "Dizzy" is because her younger sister couldn't say "Elizabeth" when they were kids so she would say "Dizbeth" and then it evolved into "Dizzy".

A funny line from the book is when Jimmy introduces himself to her and she says "I'm dizzy". Then he looks at her and says "No you're not"!

^ OK, thanks. I know that Liz Sheridan did attend Elizabeth Montgomery's Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony back in January. It would've been nice to hear about their friendship, but oh well.
