I've been a fan of UM from the beginning. I have fond memories of watching when I was young and getting really creeped out by the music and composite sketches. (I still do, sometimes!)
I grew up in a small town in Florida called Gulf Breeze, which you may recognize from a few UM segments. (Gulf Breeze UFO sightings, Donna Callahan kidnapping- now solved) The reson for this post is to pick your brains over a case that happened there in the late 80's or early 90's. I know UM came to town to film a segment on the case, but I'm not certain if it ever aired. The case involved a kidnapping of a young (11-ish) girl named Sandy. She disappeared while biking either to or from a convenience store in the Tiger Point area near her home. (Coincidentally, it was the same store where Donna Callahan disappeared while working a few years later.) Sandy was later found alive shortly after the UM crew wrapped up filming, within a few weeks, I believe. I was about 12 at the time this happened, and had attended summer camp with Sandy for the two summers prior to her disappearance. I seem to remember there being some speculation over her abduction and return- there were rumors her father had orchestrated the whole ordeal, but to what purpose, I have no idea. Surprisingly enough, although it happened in a small town, no one seems to remember any details and the story died quickly. I'm almost certain that the family moved from the area not long afterwards. I wish I could remember more details of this case. An internet search turned up nothing, and if anyone in the town remembers what really happened, they aren't talking. I hope someone on this board can remember if this segment ever aired and refresh my memory. |

Welcome kytheria, nice to have more fans here!
I don't remember the segment you described. I'm sure they probably filmed segments which never aired, probably a few extra each season just in case they needed them or if they were solved before they could be aired. Sometimes they would air additional segments in the summer reruns. |
