Yep, he was also on Bewitched and Beverly Hillbillies. He made his last TV appearance on an episode of Here's Lucy in 1974, and passed away in 1975...I really liked his Mr. Cheever role. He could really let loose and scream sometimes, but other times he just acted goofy and funny like a big galoot. Cool character...

Default I always...

I always wondered where I had seen that guy before-- it was on Bewitched. I think he played Darrin's father or something like that.

Yes, Rob Roberts was one of the two actors who played Darrin's father. (The
other one was Robert F. Simon.)

Default Roy Roberts...

...didn't really start playing "Mr. Cheever" until the last season (1967-'68). It was a clever way of letting us know that Mr. Mooney could be bullied by someone even HIGHER than his position at the bank [just as he bullied Lucy]. Roberts could match Gale Gordon, bluster for bluster, when he had to {"MOONEY, YOU'RE FIRED!!"/"Mrs. Carmichael, YOU'RE fired!"/"You hear that, plant? I'm fired! W-a-a-a-h-h-h-h...."}.

I think he only appeared once as Mr. Cheever in the fifth season, in "Lucy's Substitute Secretary." Earlier in the fifth season, he appeared in another role in a rather bad episode, "Lucy and the Submarine." I supposed the part in "Lucy's Substitute Secretary" was meant as a one-shot appearance. I think it was a smart idea to bring him on as a semi-regular as a counterbalance to Mr. Mooney. I've always felt Mr. Cheever was probably patterned after General Peterson on "I Dream of Jeannie," who sort of served the same purpose for Dr. Bellows.
