Question How do you play vcds on your computer?

It doesnt automatically play on mine, and I was wondering if there is a free program to download or how you play them.

I don't think you can. You have to have a dvd player that is able to play them. Usually it will tell you if your dvd player can play them either on the device itself or in the manual, but for the computer I don't think you can.

Yeah, you have to have a DVD-ROM.

no, a VCD is on a cdrom, all it needs is a cd-rom drive to read it, to play it you need the appropriate codecs, and a compatible player , you can get a free one here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ad/default.asp

for codecs, it should just be MPEG1, but who knows? see what file type it is, and whether it lists what codec it uses in the file properties, i just use Kazaalite's codec pack

Hmm..I guess I don't have the appropriate codecs on this computer because I just put in my Mary Tyler Moore Show vcd and all it did was come up with the folders for MPEGAV and VCD. I don't see why people like vcds anyway. The quality sucks even if you use s-video quality. It's easier just to make a bunch of high quality mpegs and burn them to data cd and watch them that way. That's what I do with all my Bewitched episodes.

what is in the VCD Folder? look for a .DAT file or .MPG file in there and see if you can play it....

its easier to record them i guess, and takes up less space on the disks, but i agree, they suck bigtime for quality

Nope. There isn't any .dat file or .mpg file in both folders. It plays fine on my regular dvd player because that works with vcds too.

Mpegs do take up a lot of space, but I prefer them to avi or vcd. I like to take screen caps from them because it's easier.

i wasn't trying to ball you out crystal - just the facts ma'am - most dvd drives come with the right software and codecs, so it makes them play VCD's automatically
