Ok, it is almost 2004, E! will have the exclusive rights to Saturday Night Live reruns, exept for the sunday 3 am airings of Classic SNL on NBC in some markets.
First of all for some reason they just stop airing SNL from the first 5 seasons last June. I think that E! will not air any SNL episodes predating 1995 (if were lucky), because they rather air an SNL episode hosted by Britney Spears a bagillion times, rather than air SNL from the "Not Ready for Prime Time Players" days, or when Eddie Murphy was in the cast. SNL DVD season sets are our only hope. |

I think the only reason this hasn't been done is because it would cost NBC/Broadway Video a fortune to secure DVD rights to the musical performances.
But yeah, I'd kill for the first five seasons, along with the late '80s-early '90s seasons, on DVD. |

That's why they've stopped airing it for now.

Comedy Central is no better. I haven't seen a pre-94 SNL on there in years!!!
I miss the days when they'd show the Eddie Murphy/Joe Piscopo/Julia Louis-Dreyfus seasons |

I think you meant pre 1984 SNL's. But right now NBC is airing SNL from 1984 on Saturday nights/ Sunday mornings in select markets.
But E! has no excuses for dropping SNL repeats from 1975-80 seasons last June. Nothing aganst the current cast, but I rather watch John Belush, and Bill Murry on SNL than Jimmy Fallon and Chris Parnell on SNL. That explains a lot about E! not airing SNL. I found it rather weird that after one week of having the entire SNL library, E! would just not decide to air it. Hopefully things will work themself out. If I was the judge I would make E! air SNL from all of the seasons, and make NBC release complete seaons of SNL on DVD. |

One other factor on why SNL season by season DVD sets would be difficult is that an SNL episode is 90 minutes (with commercials) while other TV shows episodes are 30 to 60 minutes long. (with commercials). However most SNL seasons are only 20 episodes long, while seasons of other TV shows are 22 episodes long.
