I have over 1800 sitcom episodes, but only 30 of them are Christmas eppies. Since were two days away from celebrating the birth of Jesus--and opening presents, let's all discuss our favorite Xmas eps. Mine include in order.
1. Laverne & Shirley (1976) In this one, the gang performs at a mental hospital. I enjoy the guy that impersonated a doctor, a cop, etc. Also, Lenny & Squiggy's song was weird, but made for great TV. Next, Shirley was afraid of a girl--Cindy Williams' sister--who always stared at her. Of course, the girls' singing was the toast of the performance. A 10 for effort. 2. Happy Days (1974 & 1978) In '74, it's the most touching one, as Richie discovers Fonzie_has no place to go for the holiday. In good spirit, Fonzie is invite to stay at the Cunninghams for the holidays. You have to see to believe. The one in '78 has the only appearance of Fonzie's father. Also, it was hilarious as everyone brought trees to the Cunninghams for Christmas. 10 for the first, and 9 1/2 for the other. 3. Dick Van Dyke (1963) You should see the gang doing all sorts of songs for the Alan Brady Show. I especially enjoyed Rob leading the choir (Laura, Buddy, Sally, and Mel) to sing "Alan Brady" repeatedly, and all leaving one by one. 4. Mary Tyler Moore (1970) Here, in this sad tale, Mary has to work on Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. Mary tries to make things interesting, but to no avail. Will she find happiness, she did as Lou, Ted, and Murray gave her a party. Other mentions are 5. Family Ties (1983, Alex the Scrooge) 6. BEwitched (1967, Samantha shows one of Darrin's clients the true meaning of Xmas. 7. Odd Couple (1970, Scrooge gets an 'Oscar'.) There's way more, but it would take me all night. Merry Christmas. |

I like just about every Christmas episode of the sitcoms I watch... but here are the top 5.
1. Family Matters "Have Yourself a Very Winslow Christmas" from 1990. Alone and fending for himself during the holidays, Steve shatters Laura's old fashioned Christmas ornament along with holiday visiting privileges at the Winslows'. Meanwhile, Carl does battle with other shoppers as he searches for a scarce teddy bear for Richie. 2. Roseanne "It's No Place Like Home for the Holidays" from 1992. A Christmas Eve snowstorm scatters the Connors, with Roseanne and Jackie trapped at the Lunch Box with Bev and Nana Mary, while Darlene takes shelter at David's and learns the truth about his home life. 3. Family Matters "Christmas Is Where the Heart Is" from 1993. Urkel and Carl are stranded on a stalled subway with a car full of grouchy shoppers. Urkel teaches everyone, including Carl that Christmas is a state of the heart, and can be celebrated anywhere and with anyone. 4. Family Matters "Miracle on Elm Street" from 1994. Richie brings home a homeless person on Christmas; After Eddie accidentally throws an old doll that Laura valued away, Steve heads to the dump to find it and seeing how heartbroken Laura is. 5. Roseanne "White Trash Christmas" from 1993. Roseanne and Dan snub the neighborhood association by putting up gaudy Xmas decorations, and become furious with Becky when she gives the check they have given her for college to Mark and takes a job as a waitress in a tacky bar. |

Brent88, I just saw that episode of Roseanne "It's No Place Like Home for the Holidays" today on Oxygen. I love that episode. Good lines, too. "It's beginning to look alot like crap"!! I, especially like the part when Darlene comes home and kisses Roseanne on the cheek, the look on Roseanne's face, and then Roseanne says to Bev, "See, Mom, I told you there was a God".
"Everytime lesbians kiss, an angel gets it's wings". That's a line from the episode, so nobody get upset.

One of the Happy Days episodes mentioned was probably one I can recall seeing when I was a kid. I think it was Richie saw Fonzie eating out of a can of ravioli while sitting in the garage that he worked at. I think Fonzie told Richie he had plans but he really didn't. You'll have to excuse me if I don't remember alot about it, it's been awhile.
I'm a fan of "Wings" and one of my favorites is an episode called "A Terminal Christmas". The gang tries to get Fay to finally get rid of her late husband's ashes. Sounds morbid, I know, but believe me, it is a Christmas episode. |
