What a 'jarring' experience. I just got done work early, early in the morning. I was heading home on a Hwy.50, which is a 4-lane. It was still dark, but I saw a man cross the highway in front of me, then all of a sudden I noticed a car going the other way driving erratic, and the front end went up like it ran over something. When I drove by, I saw the man laying in the middle of the highway. So I immediately pulled over on the shoulder and called 911. When I reported this incident, the dispatcher put me on hold to call for emergency vehicles. It was then that I heard tires screeching, a grey SUV skidding by me, jumped the concrete median, skidded to the other side of the highway, and slammed into a pick-up truck. The pick-up truck then jumped the median, and skidded on my side of the highway, heading towards me. Of course, my initial reaction is OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, but his vehicle ended up coming to a rest about 30 ft. from me.
Then I didn't know this happened, but there was another accident behind me on the other side of the highway. Another vehicle swerved to miss the body in the road, a passenger was thrown from the vehicle, somebody else ran it over and dragged it for I don't know how far. Of course, this person was dead, and they had the tarp covering him in the road. I didn't find this out until another witness who was waiting around to be interviewed by the police, told me. The first guy who was hit, the guy in the truck, and the guy in the SUV survived. In fact, the guy in the SUV was just fine. He walked away from the accident. So, I had to wait around for a couple hours because the police wanted to talk to me, one of the officers had me sit in the backseat of his squad car, I had to take the oath(you know, the whole 'I swear to tell the whole truth....'), and he audiotaped the interview to get my side of the story. That was pretty much it. I know accidents happen all the time but to see it first-hand and right in front of me, it still shakes you up a bit. |

Oh my God....I'm just glad you're alright. I can just imagine... Witnessing a car accident occur first-hand is just as scary as being in one itself. I've had many close calls where I've almost witnessed another car accident, and I've passed the scene of a car accident quite a number of times, too, and it's never too pleasant. A number of years ago, my mom was driving home from one of her college classes and she had this route right by the college that was the shortest way home...So she went on that route, and lo and behold, she saw the scene of a fatal car accident that had just occurred moments earlier. It still makes me sick thinking about it, because it happened right around this time (it was December 1997).
![]() At least you have something to be thankful for - you're safe and sound now. I know this type of thing is going to haunt you for a long time, but just remember that. I was almost in a car accident two days ago because my brother accidentally took a wrong turn into the other lane, but luckily there was another street so he turned off there...*WHEW*

I know how it feels to witness and be in a car accident. My car fire from October is 2 months past now and I still am shaken and I still have bad "vibes" about what "could" have happened if we had been in that car for another 30 seconds. It's hard to shake. Don't be afraid to talk about it - it helps a lot. |

And I thought the fender-bender I saw yesterday was scary.
Glad you're all right, though.

I know you're okay so be careful next time while you are watching for cars. If not, you'll get a road kill.

I'm glad your okay too.
![]() I remember a few years ago, two young teenagers were killed by a commuter train not far from were I live. They were trying to race the train, not knowing how fast it was going. My neighbour witnessed that, and he was pretty traumatized over that day for a long time.

That's really scary. I'm glad you're alright though. I sort of witnessed an accident a few years ago, but it only involved one car. My mom and I were out shopping a few weeks before Christmas and the roads were pretty icy. We were on a road where the speed limit is about 40 MPH. Well, obviously it's best to go slower than normal when the roads are icy to be cautious. Well, some guy was going a little fast and he was in the lane next to us. Suddenly I saw his car totally ram into a telephone pole (or light pole- can't remember) I was just freaked, but I saw he was still contious, but a little shaken up. I'm pretty sure he was wearing his seatbelt. I'm just glad he didn't slide the other way and hit our car!!

How scary! I swear, no one can drive worth a damn. I'm surprised there aren't more accidents.
Then I hear today my uncle was run into by a loser who ran a stop sign.

My sis couldn't stop the car from swerving, so it went into the other lane and we came four inches from hitting a streetlight pole right in front of a gas station. VERY fortunately for us though, the cars in the other lane were far away from us enough that they had time to react -- meaning, stop -- so that we could back out and get back into our correct lane. That was one SCARY morning...I had an upset stomach for the rest of the day.

I agree with the others. I'm glad you're okay. It's always sad to witness things like that. Count your lucky stars. *****

People seem to lose their manners once they get behind the wheel (not all, but enough). I'm also glad you're ok. I've seen a lot of accidents right in front of me and it is scary.
