"Bad Moon Rising," Creedence Clearwater Revival
John Fogerty wrote it on Election Night, 1968, when the returns were all in. "Ohio," Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young Neil Young's song about the Kent State killings put the blame on the White House - "Tin soldiers and Nixon's coming." "Southern Man," Neil Young Young followed up "Ohio" with a scathing indictment of Southern voters who took to Nixon's race baiting. "Sweet Home Alabama," Lynyrd Skynyrd Lynyrd Skynyrd's answer song to "Southern Man" declared that Watergate did not bother them. "Gimme Some Truth," John Lennon Lennon lashed out at all the "softhead-yellow-bellied son[s] of Tricky Dicky." "You Haven't Done Nothing," Stevie Wonder And, he hadn't. This is the only song here to address Nixon in the second person. "Young Americans," David Bowie Do you remember your President Nixon? "Cuba Si, Nixon No," Simon and Garfunkel This is an outtake from the Bridge Over Troubled Water sessions that was left unreleased - for obvious reasons. And while not really about Nixon, Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire" mentions Nixon twice - the only person other than John F. Kennedy to be so distinguished. --------------------------------------------------------- "I imagine if there had been a good rap group in those days, I might have chosen a career in music instead of politics." -- Richard Nixon, 1990 |

I don't really get out a lot. When I do go out, I couldn't be happier. I love being in a nice milieu. I'm as happy as a clam. Just as long as I'm not in some club playing hip-hop. You hear that sort of thing in a lot of places. That's not my milieu. Rock and roll is good-time music. I love rock. So did my parents. |
