What scene or moment or line in The Dick Van Dyke Show made you laugh the hardest??
For me.... it would have to be the Christmas episode.... when Buddy, Sally, Laura, and Mel are singing the song about Alan Brady where they just keep repeating his name "Alan Brady, Alan Brady, Alan Brady, Alan Brady" And then Buddy doesnt say Alan Brady and sings "Buddy Soreil" I dont think I spelled his last name right.... but IMO that was the funniest thing Ive ever seen on this show. And would have to be my favorite DVDS scene. |

It's when Rob drops the phone down Buddy's pants, and then looks down there and says, "Don't hang up!" As many times as I've seen that episode, I still crack up! Kristen |

There are so many, but one of my all time favorite scenes is in "That's My Boy?" when he opens the door and sees Mr. Peters standing there. The look on his face is priceless and I always laugh out loud!

My favorite funniest moment is in "Never Bathe on Saturday," when Rob is going to break down the bathroom door, and after taking a running start and throwing himself against it and almost breaking himself we hear Laura from the other side ask "Did you hit it yet?"

Me too, Lolac,
That was indeed a very funny line, Hank. I also like when, in "My Blonde-Haired Brunette," Rob saw Laura with half a head of blonde hair, he asked her why she was dying her hair blonde, and Millie said, "She's not dying her hair blonde," and Rob said, "I supppose it's turning by itself, then?" I also like when, in "The Curious Thing About Women," Laura pounces on the package that arrived for Rob, finally opens it, and a boat inflates in the livingroom! No line there, but a real funny scene. Steve |

I agree with Lolac and Steve; the scene where Laura has the raft blow-up in her face in "The Curious Thing About Women" was one of my favorite moments. (And the part before where she was trying to open the package. Both hilarious moments in that episode!) I also liked the scene from "That's my boy??" when Rob opens the door and finds out the Peters are black. Too many good ones to choose just one!

This is a great thread. Reading all these posts just makes me laugh! One line that always cracks me up is in "Empress Carlotta's Neclace." Laura and Millie are in the kitchen lamenting the ugly necklace. Laura says, "What am I going to do?" and Millie says, "Wear it to a bad neighborhood. Maybe you'll get held up by a thief with bad taste." I love that line and I always laugh out loud! Also in "October Eve" when Rob tells Laura she's done nothing wrong while leaning on the stove, then when she walks out, he pulls the burners off! I also love the line in "My Mother Can Beat Up My Father" when Laura asks Rob over the phone, "How's your nose?" Rob says his nose is fine and Buddy says, "It looks a little out of joint to me." I love that line also. Steve is right! There are so MANY!

I'd have to say that my most favorite moment came at the end of one of my favorite episodes. At the end of "Long Nights Journey Into Day", I love the part where Rob goes to step out of bed, and Millie pops up from where she was sleeping on the floor. That never fails to make me laugh even after I've seen it a million times.
I think it's interesting that the things we find the funniest are the things that remind us of ourselves. I know this isn't considered one of the funniest moments, but I find it funny mostly because it's something I would do! I'm a big scardy-cat, and I could see myself doing the same thing Millie did. Just saw this one and really laughed hard. In "The Gunslinger" where Rob dreams he's a Sherriff in the old west, he's talking to his deputy (Buddy) about why he decided to become a lawman. "I decided I wanted to once and for all rid the west of everything that's mean, corrupt, and ugly," he said. Buddy replied, "Then you'd better save one o' them bullets for my wife!"
