Default What is the most flawed I Love Lucy episode?

I was wondering what everyone here thinks is the most flawed I Love Lucy episode? My vote goes to episode #3, "Be A Pal". Lucy tries to re-create Ricky's childhood by setting up the apartment to look like Mexico, with Mexican hats, panchos, a donkey and other Mexican icons. Then she comes out dressed like Carmen Miranda, a Brazilian, and sings a song in Portugese....Hehehe, everytime I see that episode I crack up...It seems Lucy doesn't know anything about Cuban culture...Maybe she thought she was married to Ricardo Montalban instead of Ricky!

What do you all think is the most flawed I Love Lucy episode?

I think that is kinda funny but always wondered why Desi didn't 'protested' at the misrepresentation of his culture. Just because is Spanish doesnt mean that we are all mexicans

Montalban's Mexican (of Spanish descent ) and speaks Spanish as his first language! Perhaps, Lucy thought she was married to Xavier Cugat (an authentic Brazillian and Portuguese speaker)! Regardless, they got the approval of Miss Miranda herself who actually saw and enjoyed the parody in the studio audience!

Maybe he thought it was funny, so he didn't mind. If it hadn't been funny of course, perhaps then he would have complained. Different cultures are often represented a particular way in comedies, for easy laughs. So long as people from those cultures find it funny, they don't tend to get too offended!

Although I really enjoy the episode "The Girls Want To Go To A Nightclub", I do find that one a little flawed. The fact that the guys don't recognise the girls in disguise is just so daft! Funny, yes - but still daft! The whole concept of The Marriage Licence is flawed too, but again I very much like the episode. Also, a lot of Lucy's schemes are full of flaws when you really stop to think about them! In a way though, that's all part of the appeal of the show, isn't it. The sheer madness of it all.

Cugat was Spaniard and later moved to Cuba. I bet that Ms Miranda was flattered with Lucy's parody and Desi didn't mind the 'errors' because no matter how you put it it was funny and he was a good sport.

You're right, my bad! Well, Desi didn't mind being the occasional butt of the joke because he had created the whole concept from the ground up! As Lucy herself never failed to acknowledge (even during their stormiest times), it was Desi's vision, his choices in writers and performers that brought out Lucy's comedy to be the best shining beacon that would make the world a better place!
BTW, let's not forget Desi himself was the one who coined the nickname Lucy for her. Up to that point, she was always known by her friends and family as 'Lucille' but he wanted a name that no other man had called her by- yet few folks could imagine addressing her as anything but Lucy within a few years!LOL

Don't any of you EVER give the writers credit for writing 25 to 30 shows a year that became classics. Only 5 writers in the entire history of the show and only two writers and a producer for the first few years, so as they produced a script every single week, they had to create funny situations that sometimes stretched the limits of credulity, things that had no continuity or things that were exaggerated to the limit.

If Desi hadn't known talent when he saw it, hired them and kept motivating them to do their very best, we wouldn't have the 'Lucy' we all know and love!

But it was Lucy who insisted that they keep the writers from "My Favorite Husband."

Nothing especially. I can only really talk about first season episodes, though, since those are the only ones that I've seen recently. It's bizarre that Desi should set that whole trick up, that such a mistake could have gone unnoticed on their licence, that she should fall for the trick and react the way she did, that he should play along, that they would encounter that situation in the place they go back to to get remarried... it's one mad thing after another! In a good way though, of course.

I'm not angry at all Lodee, just stating the obvious, how would YOU like to write a comedy show and have all these restrictions put upon you, OH, IT HAS TO MAKE SENSE????? So i guess a ten foot loaf of bread coming out of a two foot oven is out then, LOL!
