I thought I would have liked more of these tunes. I only like Dreamin, Just Because, Superwoman, and Second Chance (good harmonies on that last one). Rod Stewart's record is pleasant. He's cheesy fun. Chicago is a really good band, but You're Not Alone isn't their best. Nor is it awful. They were much better when Peter Cetera was there an they had more emphasis on the instrumentation. The lead singer form Mike and the Mechanics, Paul Carrack is a crackerjack recording artist. Living Years is a bit corny though.

Chicago was 100% times better with Peter Cetera. Also, "Patience" by Guns N' Roses should have been in the top 40 about this time. If I remember right it was released in December 1988 and it peaked at number #3 in April or May of 1989.

Ish, meeeemmmories. Looking through this list, I too expected to find more favorites. Only a handful, though. I agree with dukey: Chicago was a hell of a lot better with Peter Cetera. Never could get into their songs after he left.

Yup, that list is just a good example of why I pretty much don't care for late 80s music. A few good things were around at the time, just like a few good things are on that list, but really, the genres were in the toilet then.

I'm kinda surprised Metallica's One went top 40. Yes, heavy metal was big in the late 80's, but the groups who were scoring hits were more radio-friendly than Metallica (whereas Enter Sandman was quite a bit more "radio oriented" than One)

Always disliked Tone Loc and Roxette. These were the only songs on this list I really liked.

33.Sincerely Yours-Sweet Sensation With Romeo J.D.
25.Like A Prayer-Madonna
24.Heaven Help Me-Deon Estus
23.Straight Up-Paula Abdul
17.Superwoman-Karyn White
15.Just Because-Anita Baker
14.Stand-R.E.M.
12.Dreamin'-Vanessa Williams

9.Roni-Bobby Brown
7.She Drives Me Crazy-Fine Young Cannibals
3.Girl You Know It's True-Milli Vanilli

I must admit, back then, Girl You Know It's True had a fresh sound for that time, maybe it was the synth line. I thought that song and Paula Abdul's Straight Up were bringing something new to dance pop at that time. Much as I hate to admit I listened to Milli Vanilli, it was catchy stuff.

You were close, dukey. At least on Billboard's Hot 100 (I assume a different chart than Shadoe Stevens countdown) "Patience" peaked at #4 the week of June 3, 1989, totaled 18 weeks on the Hot 100.

**UPDATE** I just compared this list to my Hot 100 list for this date and everything matches, so it is the same chart used for Shadoe Stevens.
