Default Eddie Albert Was Underrated

I love "Green Acres" and think it was one of the funniest (perhaps THE funniest) US sitcom in history and I feel sorry for those people who don't "get it."
I'd like to bring up a topic that I don't think has been brought up yet -- I think Eddie Albert as OIliver Wendell Holmes was the funniest character on the show! As the one "sane, normal man" in Hootverville, he was the 'focal point' of the show and I think he did it brilliantly. His double-takes, his expressions of outrage and bewilderment were consistently hilarious.
Oliver was at his very best when he stumbled over his own words and had trouble pronouncing certain words. There was that episode where he was suing Mr. Haney for something and in his opening speech to the court he could barely get out his first sentence. "This is not an insolated icodent, er, I mean, this is nort...uh... for years, the poople of heeterville Valley, er, the hootle of..."
That always sent me into fits of laughter. He was great.

Hi Gooch Yes he was very good at acting as Oliver Douglas and I do indeed think that he was underrated. The man was funny........

He played Oliver so well that its hard to picture anyone else in the part. He should have definitely gotten more recognition for it.

Wow, talk about an old post, I dont even think the original poster has been here since 2003 ( judging by his 4 posts ) but, yeah, It takes a pretty good actor to play the straightman in such a silly ( in a good way ) show, without looking foolish! ^_^

I liked, when "I am not a hot-head" turned into "I am not a hedgehog"

Sink-stopper turned into stop-stinker

Tiara turned into ta-ra-ra

Default Agreed!

He definitely was underrated as all the character actors on that show were. The show was ingenious and you really had to pay attention in order to "get" the humor!

Any show that can make you smile and laugh out loud is worth it's weight in gold!

I agree, ..I think it was a very funny show and Eddie Albert was the funniest character. It has always been one of my favorites.

I also am suprised how many people I find don't like the show, or get it ...sad

Of course Oliver was usually the "Straight" man. But some of his best parts were when he went with the goofiness of the others, like when he sat down at the orchestra with his guitar (because Lisa said he could) or when he took Arnold to Hollywood.

I agree. Eddie Albert was great, but many people (at least the ones that I know) don't give him or any of the actors any recognition for that show because it was a "googfy" show.
