Nick@Nite's Fatherhood is now slated to premiere in June, 2004. Here is the outline of TV Land/Nick@Nite's PROPOSED originals, it does NOT mean all of these will air. The ones for sure air will be Fatherhood (Nick@Nite), TV Land Moguls (TV Land), TV Land Awards Show (TV Land/Nick@Nite), and All Access Pass Special (TV Land). The ones that have a good chance making it on air are: ALF's Hit Talk Show (Nick@Nite/TV Land), Living in TV Land (TV Land, a classic TV poker special for Living in TV Land is also slated to make it), Exploding Baloney (Nick@Nite), and TV Land Real Characters (TV Land). NICK@NITE

For Nick at Nite, originals mandate involves developing adult programming that kids can watch in order to cash in on the channel's strong Nickelodeon lead-in. Nick@Nite's programming is "informed by the four F's: family-friendly, funny and familiar."

Original programming for TV-philes is in the pipeline for TV Land. That means a slate of originals centered on all things TV -- including documentaries, mockumentaries, list shows (which have put sister net VH1 back on the map), reality/reunion specs and sitcoms.

Acquired programs will remain both channels' bread-and-butter biz. The originals strategy is designed to take advantage of the large audience watching Nick at Nite, and to give the audience a new reason to watch TV Land.

Nick at Nite, November Nielsen numbers show the it is up 13% in its core adult 18-49 demo year-to-year. Nick@Nite ranks first among basic cablers in the demo during its Sunday-Thursday 9 p.m.-6 a.m., Friday-Saturday 10 p.m.-6 a.m. programming block.

Nick@Nite will shoot for an hour of original programming once every week from 9-10 p.m. for 2004, and eventually expand to the same hour on different nights.


The long-gestating "Fatherhood" is first up, with the animated series set to debut in June. Several companion candidates are in development to air with the skein. Bill Cosby serves as executive producer of an animated series based on his best selling book, Fatherhood (Doubleday/Dolphin). Blair Underwood ("LA Law," "Sex and The City") stars. Charles Kipps ("Little Bill," "Cosby Mysteries," "Law & Order") is executive producer and David Brokaw ("Little Bill") is producer. (30 min.). Premieres: June '04


Pilot orders include for Nick@Nite:


"Exploding Baloney," Taking a cue from classic gags like the joy buzzer and hot pepper bubble gum, this hidden camera show features parents and teachers playing good-natured practical jokes on kids. Executive Producer Joe Boyd.

"ALF's Hit Talk Show," a entertainment talker hosted by TV's famous furry alien. Exec producers are Paul Fusco ("Alf") and Burt Dubrow ("The Tom Green Show").



Nick@Nite also has scripts commitments for:

"Zen & Buster," from Kelsey Grammer's Grammnet Productions, animated half-hour revolves around the lives of Hollywood pets. Grammer will perform voiceover for the show.

"NEW Kids Say the Darndest Things," armed with a new host, the latest edition of Art Linkletter and Bill Cosby's format of the same name. Linkletter, Eddie Krtizer and Irvin Atkins produce.


Scripted series on the slate for Nick@Nite include:

"Return Engagement," a sitcom revolving around retired thesps living in a "Melrose Place"-type complex. Project comes from actor-director Peter Bonerz ("Just Shoot Me.")

"Take 2" chronicles the life of a classic TV star-turned-psychologist who is unable to escape the shadow of his former fame. Series was created by Dan Schneider ("Big Fat Liar.")

"My Man Marty," about a long-lost laffer given new life on a network's schedule, from exec producers Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert ("Stripperella.")

"The Tommy Lynch Project," a la "The Larry Sanders show," series is a behind-the-scenes comedy about a hidden camera dating skein. Tommy Lynch (Nickeldeon's "Romeo") produces.




TV LAND

As for TV Land, it is celebrating its most-watched year ever in the adults 25-54 demo and total viewers.

TV Land has greenlit the six-seg one hour series "TV Land Moguls," which exemplifies the strategy of targeting tubeaholics. Hosted by Merv Griffin, series--from CBS News Prods.--- profiles TV's pioneering producers over the decades including Desi Arnaz, Norman Lear, Aaron Spelling, Steven Bochco, Dick Wolf, David E. Kelley and Jerry Bruckheimer, premieres in April.

Also back for a second year (March 2004) will be the "TV Land Awards: A Celebration of Classic TV," which notched 15 million overall viewers on both TV Land and Nick at Nite in March 2003, hosted by the great John Ritter. The behind-the-scenes special from the first TV Land Awards "All Access Pass: The TV Land Awards" is set to premiere Jan. 28.


In the development pipeline for TV Land are:

The reality pilot "Living in TV Land," a slice of life look at a day in the life of classic TV thesps such as Dick Van Patten, Jack Klugman, Alan Thicke, Tim Conway and Bernie Kopell. Craig Nevius ("The Black Scorpian") produces.

"TV Land Real Characters," a half-hour mock biography series profiling classic TV icons -- not the actors who played them.

"Table Read," from Gay Rosenthal Prods. ("Behind the Music"), reunites former television casts for a re-reading of a memorable episode.

"David Steinberg Project," a talk show parody a la "Fernwood 2Nite" aimed at Hollywood.

"Hello Out There," behind-the-scenes laffer about running a classic TV network.

"TV Land Collectibles," a TV memorabilia take on "Antiques Road Show."



TV Land Specials & Reunions:

Happy Days Reunion - In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Henry Winkler, one of the star's of this popular sitcom, is developing a one hour special that salutes this series that was set in the 1950's and became the number one program in the 1970's. Henry Winker to executive produce along with his partner Michael Levitt. (60 min.)

TV Land's Greatest TV Moments - A comprehensive look at the extraordinary moments experienced only through television. From momentous news events such as Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream Speech" and Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon to Dallas: Who Shot J.R? and The Osbournes debut on MTV. Six one-hour installments from Gay Rosenthal Productions ("Inside TV Land," "Behind The Music").

I like some of the ideas, but I just wish the wouldn't crowd their schedules with it. TVLand seems to have good ideas, especially "Table Read," "TVLand's Greatest TV Moments" and "TVLand Real Characters."

I have to say that both networks are taking things that seem to fit with their overall programming. I mean, Nick at Nite is choosing cooky pilots and featuring modern classics sort of ideas. TVLand, however, has chosen all non-scripted-type programs which seem very interesting to me. I'm excited for all of it

Maybe have one original show,then play some 80's sitcoms for a while---hogan family,gimmie a break etc..

"TVLand's Ultimate Fan Search." That'd be great, because they could bring back the Ultimate Fan Hour on Friday afternoons where the winner of the whole tournament gets to program an hour of programming for a whole year, picking any shows he or she wants.

I don't like the idea of them airing original programming. Eventually, classic sitcoms will be pushed aside for all original garbage. Just like what happened to MTV.
