I loved Happy Days. I like most of their spinoffs except for that blasted cartoon. They could have kept Fonzie and the Happy Days Gang, for goodness sakes!

I liked All in the Family, but not as much as other shows. I really loved The Jeffersons. My all time favorite character was Florence. She was a bonafide smart alec.

Sanford and Son was okay, but I could take it or leave it. The spinoffs couldn't even hold my interests.

I loved the TC gang. The Ropers was a hoot to me. I thought they were the ultimate dysfunctional couple. Poor Mrs. Roper couldn't get laid to save her life. And as for Three's A Crowd, I wish that show would have lasted longer. Jack, Jack, and more Jack please.

Alice was wicked great. Flo was my favorite character of all. But I couldn't get with that concept for the spin-off. It just wasn't my thing.

I'm an expert at parent shows, and spin-offs.

1. Happy Days is my top show. So is their spin-off, Laverne & Shirley. Howard and Winkler were excellent on HD, as did Marshall and Williams on L&S. However, I really can't get into Mork & Mindy that much. As for JLC, it's okay.
Edge: Even (for many reasons)

2. Mary Tyler Moore won 29 Emmys, and Mary, of course, provided comic entertainment. Since I enjoy Valerie Harper, Rhoda has given me a slight edge over MTM, though I admit MTM wins. I never saw Phyllis or Lou Grant.
Edge: Mary Tyler Moore (I like Valerie, but MTM had better ensemble.)

3. I rarely saw Diff'rent Strokes, but I do enjoy The Facts Of Life. The four main girls had excellent chemistry, especially Blair and Jo.
Edge: Facts Of Life

4. Bewitched, had a good eight-year run, and I enjoyed both Darrins, Samantha, and Endora. The witchcraft scenes were pretty good. However, I can't get into Tabitha at all. I looked at one ep., and Tabitha was terrible.
Edge: Bewitched (10-to-0)

From All in The Family, I like both Jefferesons and Maude.

Happy Days, even though I hate that show, it had some funny spin offs - Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy.

Flo was never as good as Alice.

I always thought Phyllis was better than MTM. It made me laugh more. The show should have lasted longer.

The Facts of Life is better than Diff'rent Strokes imo.

From Happy Days, I love both Laverne & Shirley and Mork and Mindy.

From All In The Family, I love only The Jeffersons. I will take The Jeffersons over its parent show anyday.

I can take small chunks of Rhoda but to me it isn't as great nor successful as Mary Tyler Moore. Same with Phyllis.

There's two spinoffs I liked more than the parent show : Good Times/Maude and Different World/Cosby Show. And I agree with everything barwars88 said 'cept I do like All In The Family.

I could have sworn in another thread you conceded that Good Times is a spinoff. Either way, it's probably NOT the last time.

Wrong! "Good Times" IS a spinoff!

The show was created around Esther Rolle's character Florida Evans, who was originally Maude Finlay's maid on "Maude", before leaving and moving her family to Chicago and her own sitcom.

Now isn't a spinoff created when a character on one series becomes so popular that they then star in their own series? Looks like "Good Times" fits the bill perfectly to me!

Sorry about that, Dude, but you're 0 for 2!

The following quote is from the TV Tome website in their section on "Good Times". Read it and learn:

Good Times first aired in February 1974 as a mid-season replacement and went on for six years. This spinoff of the TV series, Maude, centered on the Evans' family. In Maude Esther Rolle had portrayed Florida Evans, the black housekeeper, but in Good Times Florida and her family were struggling to survive in a South Side ghetto in Chicago.

It was a mid season replacement but no spinoff. It was never explained how Florida went to a Chicago Ghetto from New York when she was on Maude, Therefore it was NEVER EVER BE A SPINOFF
