Smile What character did you watch the show for?

I loved this show growing up and watching it with my mother every night when it was 'new.' I love it even more now that I'm an adult fan of the series, and can rewatch it and respect the humor more.

Just a curious question. What aspect of the show made you hooked into continuing watching it? What characters kept your attention to the plot the most? You know, what made it likeable to you?

Mark! I'm a big Glenn Quinn fan, I think that he's terrific. He's a dead ringer for my husband and to top it off, he's Irish

I love Darlene and David. Is began to watch Roseanne in season 5. I had seen a couple of episodes before that to know about Becky. I love Darlene sarcasm because not many tv characters have that. The episode when I knew the show was great is It's a Boy when David moves in. I was sad when Darlene leaves David in season 7.

some of my favorite episodes were the ones that featured tom arnold. i think he is a total riot. i know alot of people find him to be an annoying jackass, but to me he's the man. it's too bad him and roseanee had to get divorced, the show went down hill once he left the staff. are there any other arnie fans here???

I don't like Tom as Arnie... but I do think Tom grounded Roseanne and the show during it's best seasons, it wasn't until they got divorced when the quality declined

If I had to pick one specific person, it would be Darlene, but definately a big draw was both Darlene and David. I thought she really developed enormously throughout the series. There was a time when she would just drop by and almost seemed too-mean, as opposed to her old, sarcastic and funny self, but even this seemed to have been developed. I love the episodes that are airing on Nick right now. Even though she's out there and studying, and out of her depressed stage, she's learning that she can't shut everyone out all the time because then she'll never connect to anyone. One of my absolute favorite episodes aired a couple of nights ago when David told her that they never really connected. It was a huge shock to her, because she always felt that special bond with him, and I think that really hurt her, but also shook her to the point that she's starting to change and trying to open up to people. I think she's growing up, and I know a lot of people talk about the "softening of Darlene" in these later episodes, but I think its perfect development for her. I can't wait for the episode where Darlene and David get back together. Its so sweet!!! I love it how she's so scared and nervous and tells him how she feels (and she has SUCH a hard time opening up, but she makes herself), and then she says she scared of getting hurt. And David, sweetie-pie-boy tells her that he wouldn't hurt her....awwww!!! Sorry. I just really love those two.

Roseanne and Jackie. The show definitely wouldn't have been the same without Jackie. Well, it wouldn't have been the same without Laurie playing Jackie, anyway.

I agree with Laurie. I watched the show for everybody- everybody was so perfectly cast that it seemed like a real family. Take one out and it wouldn't be the same.

But, I love the show the most for the relationship between Jackie and Roseanne. Their sisterly bond was probably the most developed of the entire show. For a great example of what their relationship was really about, see "Therapy" from the fifth season. It's an excellent episode that discets their relationship perfectly.

i never got how awesome laurie was until the episode where her and roseanne see the wig that looks exactly like their mother's hair. when she puts that wig on and starts impersonating their mom i realized just how great she is.

Default darlene and david

I think that two I most like out of the show are also Darlene and David. I haven't seen the episode where they get back together, but I really want to. With two different networks playing different seasons of the show, it's kind of strange to see them when they just got together on Oxygen and then go to Nick @ Nite later and see them older and broken up, but on either network I get excited when the two of them are together.

I like everyone except when Arnie was on. I can't stand him.

Yeah, Arnie was insanely annoying. It's really funny that he was married to Roseanne in real life- wasn't he?

There wasn't one particular person that kept me watching...just the whole ensemble effort I guess. Up to the first two or so years of the diner I liked everyone's character really...especially Roseanne and Jackie. And Nancy.

For me it was really David and Darlene too. Darlene really reminds me of myself in many ways. Before I even got into this show, and my mother was an avid fan (coincidently named Darlene), she used to tell me I acted like the character joking around when I was young and sarcastic and all artsy-goth. Now that I'm a fan, I laugh when I remember the comments growing up. I loved watching the romance between Darlene and David, it always changed and it was so honest and lacked just enough of the lovey-dovey fakeness of most TV couples that they continued to be interesting. I never got bored of them, and they had such beliveable actors playing the two.
