Mickey's Christmas Carol, Airing December 20 on ABC

Ever since Mickey Mouse debuted in the first synchronized sound cartoon, Steamboat Willie, on November 18, 1928, he has remained one of the most beloved and enduring characters while also presiding as the face of The Walt Disney Company around the globe. As part of honoring Mickey Mouse’s 75th
Anniversary – an 18 months-long celebration begun at Walt Disney World Resort – the ABC Television Network will present an hour-long holiday special, A Merry Mickey Celebration, on Saturday, December 20 from 8:00 to 9:00 pm ET.

The special will feature many of Mickey’s Hollywood celebrity friends saluting him through music and song, recounting his funniest moments and looking back over his illustrious career, as well as looking to his future. And the beloved holiday classic, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, nominated for an Academy Award as
Best Short Film, Animated Films, will be the centerpiece of the hour-long celebration.

Mickey’s Christmas Carol, a true retelling of Charles Dickens’ Christmas tale of overworked and underpaid accountant Bob Cratchit, stars Mickey as Cratchit and Scrooge McDuck as Scrooge. A host of other favorite Disney characters joins the legendary mouse in the classic – including Donald Duck, Jiminy Cricket, Goofy, Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck.

A star of stage, screen and ice, as well as the Chief Host at all of Disney’s Parks & Resorts, Mickey has entertained kings and presidents, prime ministers and princes, sports stars, film stars, TV stars and millions of just-plain-folks. He will continue to dazzle and spread his special mouse magic for years to come.

Mickey’s 18 months-long celebration was kicked off at the Walt Disney World Resort on November 18 with the unveiling of 75 uniquely designed, 700-pound, six-foot-tall Mickey statues.
