Default When is...

When is The Person Formally Known as Lowell going to air?
I think it's pretty appropriate that the episode coming up before Christmas because the only time I watch it is the day before Christmas Eve (That's actually when I first saw the episode!).
It's suddenly become a tradition for me

Funny you should mention that, Ange! This episode is scheduled for TONIGHT (actually, early Friday morning)....Get the VCR revved up!

I've never seen this episode before, and I'm REALLY looking forward to it....From what I've heard and read, it's a real "Lump-In-Your-Throater"!
(Many fans not only mark this episode as the last appearance of Thomas Haden Church, but also as the end of the "Golden Age" of "Wings").

Well, I actually have it to tape from USA Network (It's followed by all the THC-participent 'Wings' Christmas episodes and the 'Ned and Stacey' Christmas episode) . I also have the N@N version from the 'Wings' marathon but it's got split screening, so it sucks.
At least USA showed some respect.

I'd mark the episode as the end of the "Silver Age(1990-1995)" of Thomas Haden Church.
His "Golden Age (1999-2003)" didn't start until he did 'The Specials'.
For a while, from 'Ned and Stacey' to the film 'Susan's Plan' (blech), it was pretty much the "Fake Chrome Age (1995-1999)".
As much as I liked 'George of the Jungle', 'Free Money' and 'Mr. Murder', he truely did better in 'The Specials', '3000 Miles to Graceland'(The movie wasn't very good, but he was), 'Lone Star State of Mind' and I can't talk about 'Sideways' yet... but it's bound to be good. I'm holding off on the 'Sideways' novel until they have a version of the cover with movie images on it.

I haven't seen this episode either. The 7th Season has some classics without Lowell though such as When a Man Loves a Donut and of course Death Becomes Him.

This was actually one of the very first episodes I ever saw- during the marathon. And since it was one of the first episodes I had seen, it didn't make much of an emotional impact the first time, since I wasn't attached to Lowell, or any of the characters yet. But I think now when I see it again, it'll probaby seem more sad when Lowell leaves because I've been watching the show for so long, and I really like Lowell.
I'l have to make sure that I dont fall asleep tonight, so I set my VCR!

I just saw it too. (Even though I taped it on the VCR, tonight was one of those crazy nights where I crashed about 9:00 and then woke up around 3 AM and couldn't get back to sleep...I HATE it when that happens!)

I thought that they handled this episode very well....They gave Lowell some real dignity when he left, but they still allowed for one last bit of fun "Lowellness" when he shouted "Wow, Maui!" after the government agent whispered the destination in Lowell's ear.

I like the fact that even though he was technically no longer part of the regular cast, Thomas Haden Church returned as a "guest star" to give some closure to Lowell's character. I hate it when a character just leaves a show and they don't have an actual send-off, but rather have the other characters talk about the person after they're gone.

I can't imagine having the "Wings" characters sitting at Helen's lunch counter, drinking coffee and saying, "Yeah, it's too bad that Lowell saw that murder and had to join a Witness Protection program and leave Nantucket forever after he testified against the killer!", and then going on with the fun plot of the evening....and I HAVE seen that done on OTHER TV shows!

Even though Lowell's departure was sad, you HAD to respect the guy for what he did in bringing that murderer to justice!

Yeah.
I wonder if the episode was done BEFORE Thomas actually decided to move on to 'Ned and Stacey' because they may have had a joke that Lowell had to move to New York, instead of Maui.
Plus, Lowell could have said to Joe, "How about 'Ned' for a new name?".

BTW, for those of you who have seen 'Ned and Stacey', I'm re-watching the second season and doesn't it seem like when Diana comes into the story, Ned suddenly becomes a big pervert instead of being a suave womanizer? (Ned uses a video camera during intimate moments and makes a reference to the "Doggy-Style" position - two things associated with perversion)

This is one of my favorite episodes. Since I'm a big Lowell fan, it's sad to see him go, but it was a great episode nonetheless.

The only person who wasn't able to have a farewell moment with Lowell was Alex. I'd of liked to see her say goodbye as well.

{Sarcasm} But look on the bright side ... Budd's on his way!!! {Sarcasm}

Woulda been nice if in the last episode they thought of some way to bring Lowell Back. The show would end and all, But we would at least know hes back where he belongs.
