Default Favorite '70s Beach Boys album

I can't decide between "Carl And The Passions" and "Love You."

The former just ****ing kicks you right in the ass, from the opening Carl rocker "You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone" to the closing ballad, Dennis' beautiful "Cuddle Up."

"Love You," on the other hand, marks the brief creative return of Brian Wilson. In fact, this originally was going to be a Brian solo album entitled "Brian Wilson Loves You," but he felt these songs were better-suited for his brothers and the band. The end result is an album full of silly, melodic bliss. The last good, let alone great, Beach Boys album.

The most disastrous of the decade? "15 Big Ones." It's just a damn shame I have to skip to track sixteen when I want to listen to "Love You" on CD. I think this album signaled the beginning of the end for The Beach Boys. The final nail in the coffin was Dennis' death in 1983,

Oh yeah, and Mike Love is an *******.

Discuss.

I'd have to say Carl & The Passions. I loved their sound in that album and it really sounds good. On the other hand though, Sunflower and Surf's Up were both terrific and I love both of them as much! Dennis really wrote some great songs on Sunflower and I'd say that would be his best contribution to the Beach Boys' albums. I do agree 15 Big Ones was not too fun.

Sorry to bump up this thread, but I had to share this 1979 Dennis Wilson quote I found where he expresses his distaste for the "M.I.U. Album" and for Mike Love. Two birds in one stone.

"I hope that the karma will f**k up Mike Love's meditation forever. That album is an embarrassment to my life. It should self-destruct."

My sentiments exactly, Denny. I f**king love and miss you (and Carl).

Unfortunately, Mike got his revenge eight years after Dennis' death when he let John Stamos re-record "Forever" with The Beach Boys.

Well put!!! John Stamos in the Beach Boys was a total embarassment and Mike Love really screwed it up there.

While I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement, I must give you props for having the guts to stand your ground with a certainly unpopular opinion.

Peace,

I'm a real Beach Boys fan, too. It's just that stuff they did after "Love You" doesn't really tickle my fancy (although I like a few cuts on "Light Album" and "Keepin' The Summer Alive"). As I said, I respect your opinion.
