The only song of their i heard is "one more time" and i really like it... does most of their music kind of sound like that? i heard they were one of the first punk bands but what ive heard of their music doesnt sound punk. it just sounds weird... but i like it. i didnt know they were considered a punk band until long after i heard them.

Cool The Clash

I'm not sure which album has "One More Time", but the songs that get the most airplay are "Rock the Casbah" and "Should I Stay Or Should I Go", from their "Combat Rock" album in 1982. If you want something that really sounds punk by them,
try these songs from "The Clash" album (1979):

Clash City Rockers
I'm So Bored With the U.S.A.
I Fought the Law
White Riot

From "Give 'em Enough Rope" (1978):

English Civil War
Safe European Home
Julie's In the Drug Squad
Tommy Gun

From "London Calling" (1979):

London Calling
Brand New Cadillac
Hateful
Spanish Bombs
The Right Profile
Lost In the Supermarket
Clampdown
Train In Vain (the hidden hit track)

From "Sandinista!"(1980)

The Magnificent Seven
Hitsville U.K.
Ivan Meets G.I. Joe
Somebody Got Murdered
Police On My Back

Other songs from "Combat Rock"

Know Your Rights
Go Straight to Hell

Song from "Cut the Crap" (1985):

This Is England

Another song you might want to look for on their various "Best of" Compilations:

This Is Radio Clash

Don't be surprised if you find a lot of reggae or ska-type songs on their albums as well as punk.

Another band you may be interested in is guitarist/vocalist Mick Jones' late 80' band Big Audio Dynamite:

"Big Audio Dynamite" (1985):

Medicine Show
The Bottom Line
E=mc2

"Number 10 Upping Street" (1986):

C'mon Every Beatbox

"Big Audio Dynamite II" (1991):

Rush
The Globe

If you are looking for a pure "punk" album from the Clash, get their self titled album. The other albums are diverse in musical style ranging from rock to reggae.

One of my favorite bands of all time. The Clash, the Ramones, The Sex Pistols, they all defined Punk... *sigh* I love 'em

Too bad when I was in high school, I didn't hear the Sex Pistols and those guys until 1979, when everything at that point was still Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees... Man, when I heard them, it was like a REVELATION. When I saw "Rock and Roll High School" with the Ramones at the drive-in in 1980, I was SOOOO into it that I bought a ticket to see the Ramones that weekend. I was prolly the only kid at Auburn Senior High School to see them.

Btw, note to Sarah, another song you might want to check out, by singer Joe Strummer, "Love Kills", on the "Sid and Nancy" soundtrack. Great movie.

London Calling... one of my favorite albums of all time. "Spanish Bombs" and "Train In Vain" are the best songs!!

On Combat Rock... I'm surprised you didn't mention "Rock the Casbah"! Sure, ovverrated, but nonetheless, a great song

Actually, I included it in the first paragraph, but I didn't specify that song and "Should I Stay..." were on "Combat Rock." I was a little disappointed, though, that when those songs got popular, it was "acceptable" to like the Clash. It took some of the edge out of them.

Btw, it was still cool to see them on SNL twenty years ago.

I had that record and to me it sounded like crap.. Might have been THAT COPY.... Im suppose If I ever find it again I may try it....

I had had other 80s albums that sounded like like crap and I got another copy and it was fine...... (They really started ruining GOOD analogue sound in the 80s)
