What order are the episodes in?

The other day, I was watching my season two set, episode 62 "When a Bowling Pin Talks Listen." At the end of that episode there is a promo for the "Family Cavalcade," the episodes that would run in reruns over the summer depicting how Rob and Laura met, got married and had Richie. I thought, "Oh that was the last episode of the season." To my surprise, when I looked at the box, episode 63 was on there, "All About Eavesdropping." So I looked at the broadcast dates of both episodes. Episode 62 was broadcast on May 8, 1963. Episode 63 was broadcast on October 23, 1963. Wouldn't that have put episode 63 in Season 3? After that, I went back and checked the broadcast dates on all of the episodes and they skip around frequently. So my question is: How was the numbering of the episodes decided? They are obviously not in broadcast order or filming order.
Check it out and see if you don't agree. David Van Duesen or Doug Denoff, any logical answer to this one?

"When a Bowling Pin Talks, Listen" was filmed on April 2, 1963, and "All About Eavesdropping" was filmed on April 9, 1963.

I believe that the episodes are in filming order - not airdate order.

But, David, episode 36 was filmed on September 11, 1962 and episode 37 was filmed 3 days earlier on September 8, 1962. In season 1, episode 17 was filmed on October 24 1961 and episode 18 was filmed on October 1, 1961. So how did they determine which should go first if it is not in broadcast or filming order? For the most part it does seem to go in filming order except for these few that are out of order. I'm just curious about it.

Episode 36 was filmed September 11, 1962, and Episode 37 was filmed September 18, 1962 (I believe the listing as September 8th was a typo). The cast was certainly not able to rehearse and learn a whole new episode in less than three days.

Episode 17 was filmed October 24, 1961, and Episode 18 was filmed November 1, 1961.

What source are you referencing for this information?

My source is the back of the cases for the DVDs. There may be mistakes on there. It would certainly make sense if that were the case! Thanks for your input!

Vince Waldron explained in The Official Dick Van Dyke Show Book that after the second, third, and fourth seasons, the cast would make one more episode to be held over into the next year in order to have a head-start on the new season. All About Eavesdropping was the 33rd ep made in the second season, but only 32 aired then. My Two Showoffs and Me was held over the next season, and A Farewell to Writing was held over into the fifth and last season, so only 31 episodes were produced for that season, while 32 new episodes were aired.
