ABC are so cheap! They should have cancelled 8SR after John died but they wanted to earn more money and they kept running it....I was really upset when they decided to continue the show
Sorry if I offended any1 |

that's a position. and i'm sure one point for abc to continue the show was money (cuz everything's about money).
but on the other hand... think about what john would have wanted. he wouldnt have wanted the show to be cancelled. and it's the same with his family. amy said in an interview that john would have wanted the show to go on and that she's proud that the show continues, because they continue john's very own show, his last work that he couldnt finish. so in a certain way the continuing of the show is like a tribute to him. and i think that's a very nice tribute, millions of people are still watching the show and remembering john ritter, together with his tv family and of course his real family |

I agree with TheBert. Of course, the ABC execs certainly reaped a lot of benefits from this tragedy, but they weren't the only ones who decided to keep doing the show. Everyone involved was consulted and they approved of continuing as a tribute to John.
Here's the statement Amy released and I think it says everything: "John always dealt with anything that life threw at him with humor. He believed in this show and its message that a strong family can get through anything. He felt so lucky to be working with such wonderful people everyday. They all had such a warm friendship, and I know John would want his friends to be able to continue doing what they love." You didn't offend anyone. You have a good point and I think you expressed it politely. |

You do have points, but he was the leading character. It would be like if Melissa Joan Hart died but they kept making Sabrina the Teenage Witch (I do realise the show is cancelled)

Well that's a point of view
But you couldn't continue the show without the leading character. It should be like that for every show |

Shelley Long was the star of Cheers, and when she left.... the show went on to even bigger ratings.

I'm also really glad it went on! It's a great show and John would have wanted it that way, as another poster said.

Shelley's characters name wasm't in the title or there wasn't any referneces to her character in the title. The "My Teenage Daughter" part was referring to Paul. Cate wasn't as strict as Paul was about dating

I wish all the best for 8 Simple Rules, but that doesn't mean I actually will watch the show! What I do is just leave the tv on to the channel when the show comes on and go to the next room to do something else!
I do want the show to be successful only because it was JOHN'S SHOWI'm sorry, but watching the show now without John is just too sad! R.I.P. John U WILL BE MISSED!

Just one question....Why was the "My Teenage Daughter" part dropped if it referes to Paul and Cate?

Because the title was too long in the first place.... everyone called it "8 Simple Rules" anyways.
