Default Just A "Message Board" Observation....

I'm noticing that most (if not ALL) of the other sitcom message boards have been kind of stagnant lately, with little or no new messages....whether they're sitcoms from the 1950's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's or the present.

The unfortunate and sudden passing of John Ritter seemed to have spurred a lot of message board activity on the "Three's Company" and "Eight Simple Rules..." boards, but even THOSE seem to have dropped off recently.

I realize that people are busy with the holidays, final exams, etc., but here on the "WINGS" board, we seem to be able to keep things going with new messages.....and by rights, OURS should be the LEAST active message board, given the graveyard timeslot that "WINGS" is banished to!

We just keep the good times rollin'....In fact, this message board is a lot like the "WINGS" series itself....It may not be the most talked about or most exposed series on TV today, but it keeps hanging in there and providing good, solid enjoyment, just like "WINGS" did for 8 seasons!

It's usually "Wings", "Mystery Science Theater 3000" and "The Simpsons". The whole cult-phenomonon.
Wings has the same cult appeal, but not the same merchandising rights.
Nope no big DVD boxed sets or Lowell Mather "I drank too much Nyquil (TM)" T-shirts (okay, now I WANT one of those!).
You'd think that if Paramount can make "Frasier" coffee cups, DVDs and "Making Of-" script books, they could do the same for their other sitcoms.
Paramount really needs their own mall store like Warner Bros. or Disney. Although I think half of the place would be filled to the brim with "Star Trek" stuff. Not that I hate "Star Trek", but the last few series (Voyager, Enterprise) haven't been very good and I think that the company is just making it up to the fans by releasing all that merchandise.

Now if you'll excuse me, I want to fall asleep on these pizza boxes because last night I didn't get to bed until 4:00am.
Mr. Worf... with a diet cola!

This has become my favorite place to post here at SO, and not just because Wings is one of my favorite TV shows Everyone here is just so nice, respectful of others, and fun to talk to. We don't seem to have any of the petty arguments and the troublemakers who post just to get a rise out of people here. I've posted at other message board sites where the atmosphere was just plain miserable.

It's as if ANYWHERE you post now, if you say one thing wrong or don't work up to someone's quota, you get labeled a "troll" or a "flame-starter". Sometimes you're just plain ignored because you didn't read the FAQ.
At least here if we come upon a mistake here, like my recent post about "Stay Tuned" (which I called foul on and admitted that my facts weren't straight), you can fix it diplomatically and then people stray onto something else. I guess you just don't talk about political or disturbing situations on the TVLinksOnline forums. It hurts the board's flow (plus, should we REALLY be talking about that stuff on a "Wings" board? No.)
Like they say, stick to what you know.

That's why I now know better to stay away from UseNet.

Ugh!!! Tell me about it. Some people act like it's the end of the world if someone doesn't agree with them over something as petty and trivial as a TV show, music group or something. I remember a woman at another message board site I used to post at who labeled me as an "idiot with nothing smart to say" just because I love Wings and I don't like some of her most favorite TV shows. Whatever...

Nah, it wasn't you It was someone who apparently has no life and feels she has to bring herself up and make herself look smart by making others look and feel stupid. Too many people out there like that in cyberspace, unfortunately.

I still feel as if you're discribing me. In the beginning I didn't know what I was doing when I was dabbling in message boards. It took me a LONG time to figure out EXACTLY how the whole thing worked.

Sometimes people can be very subtle and come off as harsh and horrible. It's because they don't know how to convey tone of speech into their writing.
Since my woes, I've done much MB research about online conflicts and such. People tend to think they have to show off their passion and inner thoughts online without thinking.
Fortunately, I only do that once in a while now.

I feel as if Thomas Haden Church needs to be defended. Female fans (the small clump he has... it seems as his fanbase is primarely made of males who like his style of comedy, in which I salute them! I think his female fans really showed up AFTER 'Ned and Stacey') come off as if he's a teen idol sometimes. I hate when they can only talk about how sexy he is and not combine the sexiness with his talent when speaking of him. I might do it a bit when I'm feeling lovey-dovey, but the other half of the time I write a few replies and get into the deepness of his craft. I sometimes find his craft just as sexy/cute as his surface Meterosexual looks.
Lowell Mather made him all the more attractive because Lowell had a knack for idiosyncratic cuteness.
