Has anyone read the book called "Dreaming of Jeannie: TV's Prime Time in a Bottle?" I found it at the library. It's a good book on the show with great photos. It even has a pic of Jeannie and Dr. Bellows at a party with Ringo Starr. The behind-the- scenes stories include Larry Hagman's champagne binges & eccentric behavior. There is also an interesting interview with Bill Daily.

I have the book. I really enjoyed reading it and I think that it has some great pictures. The information in the book is good except the author sort of portrayed Larry Hagman as being very difficult on the set.

I read it too.
Actually, I think Larry Hagman was difficult on the set as he sort of admitted it in his book ("Hello Darlin'"....a very good book). What I found odd about the "Dreaming of Jeannie" book is that the last chapter is entirely dedicated to Bewitched (and although I really like that show too, I don't think it was appropriate or fair for the author to use the last chapter to focus on Bewitched, since the book was supposed to be about IDOJ). |

I recently won this book in an auction but I have yet to receive it as of today. I looking forward to receiving it.
Anyway, did the author state the exact reason he included the chapter on Bewitched???? Not that I disagree with what you said, I'm just curious as to why the author explained why a chapter on Bewitched was needed. I like both shows, actually, so it's cool either way. Signed, Respectfully, Dutch |

Yeah I bought the book about a month ago and read it twice (I really loved it) I guess the whole Bewitched thing was to kind of compare the two since he kept mentioning the whole Bewitched vs. Jeannie. What I didn't really like was how the author kept mentioning how he didn't really like the show (not directly) but he made it seem like "I don't even know why I'm writing this book" anyway I loved everything all the info and stuff and it was really good.. I wish I could get my hands on "Hello Darlin'" I'd love to read it and see what he says about his IDOJ days and everything else ofcourse..

My copy arrived today in the mail. I skimmed through a lot of it. I read some of the chapter on Bewitched. He basically includes it, I guess, because so many people compare BW to IDOJ. But he says that IDOJ is not based on BW and even if it was, he says, it would still be ok because IDOJ is a good show and that would have been how we got it, that's all. Sort of like Flintstones was based on the Honeymooners. In other words, no big deal even if it was the case. I read the chapter on Larry Hagman. He seems really eccentric in real life.

You might be able to find "Hello Darlin" at your local library.
Anyway, I think that the author indicated that he simply prefers Bewitched to IDOJ (and so that's partly why he couldn't help but include coverage of Bewitched in the Jeannie book). |

Yes, check with your local library. If they don't have it, check with one of the librarians to see if they have it at a different branch within your area. If it is available, they will send the book to your branch and hold it for you. And if it isn't available even then, ask the librarian about "interlibrary loan." Most libraries offer interlibrary loans and will search other libraries until they find the book. Like I said, check with your librarian to see if it is possible to obtain the book that way.

Yes....that's the best solution if your library doesn't have the book (in fact, I actually borrowed the "Dreaming of Jeannie" book via interlibrary loan).
My local library happens to carry "Hello Darlin"; however, which reminds me....It's a good book, but I must warn those of you who are interested in reading it that he doesn't say much about IDOJ in that book. But if you're interested in reading about Larry Hagman's life, then it's a great read.... |

I have looked over this book although I don't own it.
Although the book is really well done, two things shocked me. The first was the interview with Bill Daily in which he "talks dirty" for the lack of a better term. It seemed so out of character for someone with the image he has. I don't think he used cuss words, just said some sexually explicit things that I thought were not needed. The second was the picture of Hayden Rorke at the party. Didn't expect to see Dr. Bellows dressed like that that in my lifetime. I also didn't realize he was a homosexual prior to reading it in this book. Good reading. |
