I just can't understand why the phrase-"DNYNOMITE" was so popular in the mid 70's. When I watch Good Times episodes from season 2, you can help the audience EXPLODING from laughing when J.J said dynomite. I'm just trying to think what was so funny about it.

It wasn't "what" was said, but HOW it was said; when JJ said "Dy-NO-mite!!", he did it with a comedic, chicken-like flourish (think Don Knotts in the ghetto) that was just plain funny to look at. (Plus, a lot of kids my age at the time looked to JJ as a sort of---HORRORS!!---role model---remeber, before this there were very few Black characters on tv kids could identify with---and so we idolized him...and his sayings.)

(By the way, I'm sorry I'm just now answering your posts...reality intervened and I was unable to go online for a while...BUT I'M BACK...WITH A VENGEANCE!!!! )

Another thing is that it seemd like in the 70's, catch-phrases were popular on sitcoms. When certain lines on these shows were said episode after episode, it was considered funny just because of familiarity.
