Default TV LAND vs. Original Eps

My apologies if this already has been discussed - but I've been wondering why the "TV Land" showings differ, sometimes rather significantly, from the reruns that aired prior to the "TV Land" era.

I guess because TV LAND is showing eps to a larger audience so the have to cut out certain words and scenes. Now my local UPN station leftthe words in and scenes that TV LAND cut out because they are showing eps to a much smaller audience.

But why would the size of the audience matter?

As I recall, the reruns shown on the UPN were the same as the original NBC episodes. The TV LAND eps, however, are sometimes quite different that the UPN. And, as I recall, neither the scenes cut from the UPN eps nor the footage added to the TV LAND eps
weren't any more "objectionable" than each other...

Well I guess TV LAND has to be more politically correct since more viewers are watching. Sanford and Son on UPN here in Phladelphia was on at 4am so they were able to leave in the N-word and other controversial scenes

Yeah - that makes sense. Like the traffic court scene where Fred says "there's enough N's in here to make a tarzan movie."

Yup. The UPN version of Traffic Court has the scene when FRed says there enough N's in here to make a tarzan movie.

And the ep where Esther calls Big Money Grip a "N" when he claims to be Lamont's father - that part is missing from TV LAND as well.

"Do I look like something that just walked out of Esquire?"
"No - you look like something that just got kicked out of El Segundo."

On TV Land, Esther says SUCKER instead of the N-Word
