Default The last episode

I never really had a chance to watch Roseanne when it was on during its original run since i was involved in so many things and have just recently began watching the show regularly on reruns.I have been browsing the boards and have seen that many of you were dissappointed in the way the show ended. Can someone explain the final episode to me please. Please, give me the details...it will not spoil it for me.

From TV TOME:

Part 1,
Darlene and David bring home their new baby. Roseanne's sage advice for her daughter "The best part is when you can mold their tender little egos to fit your every whim," she says. But the baby's not the only news. When friends and family gather to celebrate the birth, Becky and Mark have a surprising secret -- and Leon and Scott make an announcement. Becky is pregnant and Leon and Scott have adopted a Romanian girl.

Conclusion,
In this emotional finale, Roseanne and Darlene reveal to each other that both want the other to stay at the Connor house. As the whole family sits down to eat, Roseanne drifts away, turning up in her writing room, finishing her book, where she revelas the truth. The lifes we have seen are actually the lifes of the people in her book ... not real life. In real life, she is still coping with the fact that Dan died, Becky married David, and Darlene married Mark. In the end, she reveals that the whole life the audience has known, has really been a narration of her book, and the way she wants life to be.

Thanks Brent...one other question about part 2. When they sit down to eat before Roseanne drifts away, is Becky with Mark or David and who is Darlene with or do they explain it? What I am getting at is was this part "real life" or "the book"?

Well... what happened on the show was part of her book. It's very confusing but the Becky/David Darlene/Mark is actually real-life whereas the book was Becky/Mark, Darlene/David. Roseanne's book was the way she wanted life to be. In real life, Dan died of his heart attack, but in her book and on the show, he lived. The last episode was really a mess, as is the whole last season.

That finale sounds like the most convoluted and confusing ending in the history of TV. Did Roseanne take leave of her senses or what?
I think Roseanne is one of the best shows ever written, and to butcher it this way in the home stretch makes no sense to me.

Surely, with all those creative minds on board, they could have come up with a great finish for this great show.

I like the last episode, even though it's different and rather confusing at the end. It's also sad once she starts talking about Dan.

I thought it sounded kind of interesting, but I've never seen it. I just started watching this show and I usually don't watch series finales anyway.

I think she did the best thing she could have at the time, and I happen to really like the ending of Roseanne. .

I stopped watching after Dan's heart attack cuz it wasn't fun to watch money tear the Conner's apart. .

But, I think the last episode saved the series for me. . I mean, the last season.

but you know, when a show like Roseanne is on, it's like a whole story. . so the ending has to fit. . and it did as best as it could from where they were. .

Smoochies!

After seeing the ending, I had to watch it again to catch everything that she said and stil it has left me with questions

She left no room for a reunion, and if she did do a reunion it would be so weird
Which Becky would she bring back?
Who would play Mark or would they kill his character (he has died in real life)
Would Darlene be with David or Mark?
Would Jackie (since she is gay) still have Andy or would that have been a figment of Roseanne's imagination?

The ending also never explained...
Since Jackie is gay, was she really married to Fred?
Did Fisher beat her up or was it her "girlfriend"?
Did she really have Andy or is that just the kid Roseanne thought Jackie should have?
Who got married first Darlene/Mark or Becky/David?
***I cant really see 17 year old Becky and (?) younger David getting married, or (?) Darlene running off getting married.***
What happened to Jerry Garcia? she mentioned all her kids but I dont recall her mentioning him.
Her mom was not really gay, so did she have a boyfriend or just a female friend she hung out with at Leon's house?

Thats just my questions about the final episode, have many more about the rest of the seasons

Did Roseanne say Darlene ran off with Mark. Becky dated a younger David? I always thought she meant Darlene and Mark got married. Pregnant Becky and David were the same age. I thought she had Becky elope to cut her character out of the show and her book would have been different had Lecy stayed. but this is only what I thought.

She never said that Becky was the younger daughter or that Mark and Darlene ran off, she just said that they were married and David and Becky were married. I dont know if the girls ages were accurate in the story line now that she has all these people switching places. She left to much open with the closing
