Default Was Fred a Bad Father?

Was Fred Sanford a bad father? I felt he was because he lied a lot, faked heart attacks and constantly called his son Lamont a dummy. Lamont was the voice of reason that kept his father in line.

LOL it was just a comedy show! I think Lamont could have been a little humourous to Freds actions, Lamont always was on Freds case which gets me mad once in awhile!

Fred was an excellent father and one funny mothaf*cker!

No he wasn't a bad father. He cooked for him and occasionally gave him good advice. I think he really loved the "big dummy"!

Ward Cleaver, Robert Young and Cliff Huxtable he wasn't, but he was the best father he knew how to be. And under the circumstances they lived in yes he was a great father. When Lamont was being conned by the card sharks, who was it that came to his rescue???? Fred G. Sanford, the "G" stands for great father!!!!

Compared to most typical TV fathers, I truly believe Fred was very realistic; he was a good father, who had a tendency not to reveal his true feelings and emotions, even towards his son..but Fred loved Lamont..and even if he never told Lamont this..I think he was also very proud of him...

Right on Mrs Harris I wish it were 1978 again myself. Best year for music that I ever heard. As for Fred being a good father? I think he did his best albeit a little sneaky with the fake heart attacks and the arthritis but Lamont wasn't always the best son and this really comes out in the episode Lamont Goes African.

Fred was a very good father to Lamont. He loved him very much. He was scared to death of Lamont leaving him.

I think Fred was a crappy father.

He may have been good at times and Lamont wasn't perfect either but Fred was more of a problem.

Some good. Some bad. Overall: meh

Esther, however, was a great Aunt to Lamont.
