Default What's a "fair" price to pay for shows on dvdr's??

I know this is a very "subjective" question and it would depend on how much it is worth to each individual to purchase a show - but....let's say there is a complete set of a show - 90 episodes on say - 9-10 dvdr's ....what would you pay for it?

There are lots of people selling & buying sitcoms/shows on vhs and dvdr on Ebay & Yahoo auctions. Just wondering what it would be worth to someone to pay $$ for a show if they didn't have the option of trading.

Thanks!!

PS...Of course, we realize we are paying for the blank dvdrs, wear and tear on equipment to record them, and the individual's time to make a set. So, before someone gets riled up about buying and selling shows....I'm just talking about accomplishing a trade.........

If there are approximately ten episodes on each DVD-R, then these shows are taped in ep (slp). Personally, I think these should sell for around the same amount as the equivalent in a video - no more than $10 per DVD. (I use Princo, which run around $.65 each.) Of course, if the seller is using top of the line DVD-Rs, then that'd be a different story.

Of course I'd never spend that kind of money myself. I think $5-7.50 each would be more fair if a seller is truly only charging wear/tear on their machines as they're supposed to.

Yep, I'm with ya there! I'ld buy a heck of a lot more dvdr's from people willing to sell them if they would only charge me $5.00 for each disk!! For $10...I would expect to see more than a disk with a black and white episode list - I'ld be lookin' for color labels and a slim case (not a previously used cd case )...

Thanks for your input!!

I guess I need to hurry up and buy a dvd recorder and start doing some serious trading and quit paying top dollar for some of the sets I buy. I have quit buying vhs because everybody's vcrs record/play differently and the tapes they make my play fine on their's and be crappy on mine. I have so many videos that I want to keep the show but the tapes take up too much room!! I plan on converting what I can to dvd and trading/selling of my videos. For .69cents a disc...I need to get started!!

We have seven VCRs in our house, and we try playing troublesome tapes in each one, to find which one works best. Many times there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason why a tape will work in one VCR and not another. It gets irritating having to switch VCRs all the time, but it's worth it in the end.

It is irritating that the quality varies from trader to trader. One of my traders has great stuff, but his stuff can only be watched once or twice. Since he has terrific shows, I convert them to DVD before even watching them a first time. It's not worth it to mess the tapes up for good.

I would suggest that you stick with DVDs (any speed) and with SP videos when trading/buying. This would practically guarantee that you'll have decent stuff to watch/trade in the future, when you have more potential for trading. I know it's an added expense, but until you have the option of a DVD recorder, it's the smartest thing to do.

Hi! Not to worry! I won't leave you or anyone hanging! I promise. I'll post the LINK, Photos, and pricing, and specs on the 15th! So just a few more days okay? I have to confim the store get its on the 14th, or that it's on the shelves by the 15th.

What gets me, since it's new, and awesome, good, good solid quality, I would hate for these "big wigs" to buy like 4 or 8 of them and clean out these stores, to sell for a higher price on some outlet, etc... That's been done before. I'll see some nice equipment, and some thug buys their whole inventory and there's nothing I can do about it...seems they do this to hog everything and then turn around to sell it in their stores for a high profit. So This Sunday, I'm going late evening to make sure if 1.) , I can buy it on the the 14th, or 2.) MAke sure they have it i te store for stock on the 15th. They may get afew or many of them... but from the Sales Rep on the phone told me the manufacturer, told me, was it plays and records DVDR AND VHS tapes... the VCR may be play only, which would make ense in order to have the DVDR record from it... but if the VCR portion is a recorder, which I BELIEVE IT IS ALSO, then you can play and record from each deck back to back..

I DO know that the DVDR is both a player of many formats, mp3s, CD, VCD's etc...and Records, so THAT is awesome... I laugh and am glad I never bought that DVD PLAYER and VCR combo units out there... because I always wanted one, but always waited for that one day SOMEONE would make that DVD Player a RECORDER! which now they have!

Imagine... One Unit, One Plug, One Button.. Pop in a VHS tape of an old show or whatever... then hit RECORD on your DVDR and VIOLA!

Then I'll just chuck and toss my old VHS tapes, which is the reason for me getting this... I still trade and buy VHS tapes from people that have good stuff, because NOW I'll know it won't matter anymore if the show I want is on VHS tapes. I already have a Dual-Deck VCR, so that is nice too! Now, I'll get a trade from someone that is on VHS tape, and I'll simpy transfer it... I hope you will too! And of course, 1st year prcing are always high, trust me in 2 years it will be much chaper, but if the demand is high, the price won't go down for awhile unitl other manufactures get on the ball and copy it. I have literally like 8-10 banker boxes of VHS tapes, labeled and unlabeld, and I am sooo tired of it just sitting there.,.. LOL so I look forward to making DVD labels and stuff, then it won;t even take up any room at all.. you get the idea.

Nannyfan. I'll post EVERYTHING FOR YOU on the 15th! Maybe the 14th, if its on the floor. thanks fore reminding me. oh and I do want to trade with you as well when I get my combo unit!

Wink

Hey Beavis

The product I've found has more 'spec' info listed on the website today and states that it will be out before the end of the year. I wouldn't be surprised if it is advertised in the Sunday paper this weekend!

I don't get why there's such a big secret about it. Why such secrecy? I mean, if you're the manufacturer, I would understand, but otherwise...

ok..I'll tell you what I know....check out:

www.govideo.com

I don't know if this is the one Beavis is talking about...but, it is a dvd recorder + vcr....so, maybe??? From what I have seen, there are other manufacturers coming out with the same thing eventually....of course...

I also found an article last night stating that - according to manufacturers in Taiwan, dvd recorders are expected to drop from the average price of $399+ to $299+ because the cost of chips have decreased and their ability to manufacture more in less time increases the quantity they can export.

I'm impressed with my Go-Video dual deck VCR, and while the tracking isn't the best, it's super for copying two sets of shows at the same time. I'd think that the DVD Recorder and VCR should be a pretty decent machine.

Thanks for the information, Nanny Fan.
