Default Downloading music

I'm sure this topic has come up before, but since I'm new please bear with me. I just wanted to get some opinions on downloading music. I used to download free from Kazaa, and ever since the RIAA said that they were going after individual who download from various sources I stopped. I really enjoyed making my own CD's and a lot of the songs I got were rare recordings of music I can't find any more. I hate spending my money on a whole CD for one song. Is it wrong for me to want to do this and is this stealing like they are saying?

I guess I'm wondering if any else continue to download or has the RIAA put the fear into you as well.

The only time the RIAA will scare me is when they show up on my doorstep armed. I still download music. I don't care, actually. I've put firewalls on my computer, which makes it more difficult for them to know who I am. Plus, on AOL, your IP number changes everytime you sign on. They'll never find me.

Yeah I agree with Karly. I'm really not that worried. I still download from Kazaa. I stopped my sharing, which is supposed to reduce the risk of getting caught....

I stopped sharing as well so I don't think there's anything to worry about. Last night, I even downloaded some songs and today I went out and bought the cd so I'm not always ripping off the music industry. The RIAA can kiss my behind. I download songs to see if I like a new artist and like I said I usually go buy the cd sooner or later, but then there are things you can't find anywhere but online. Or if you have a cd and a particular song you love is scratched then I'll go download that song. If they want to fine me for that. I'll shove the cd in their face and make them listen to it. I'm not going to go buy that cd again just because it's scratched.

I don't download anymore. My father's computer has a whole bunch of songs that are not shared. I don't make CD's anymore, either. Instead I listen to an MP3 player. I've been trying to find a converter and a ripper that is free. I hate that for the most part you have to pay for one of those online.

Kazaa Lite is the best source for download music and videos. The RIAA never stops here!

I download songs and don't feel the least bit bad about it.

I have nearly 400 CDs, 58 LPs, 21 SACDs, and 8 DVD-As. As an audiophile, I buy at least two new albums, in one format or another, per week, so the RIAA is getting my money. I'll download one or two tracks off an album if I'm curious, and if I like the material enough, I'll go out and buy it.

I'll also download albums in their entirety if they're out-of-print and can no longer be purchased.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Like some of you said, its not that I am just downloading and not buying, I do eventually go out and buy new CDs after sampling some of the music that has been recommended to me by others, but I also found songs from groups that I like that are out of circulation or have not been put onto CD yet. I also like downloading videos from groups that I haven't seen for a long time. I think I will take the advise of stop sharing.

I also have a question, what is Kazaa Lite?

Thanks again!
