Post OVERRATED NANCY PART 2

This whole thing is silly. I'm afraid people will miss some of my resposes, so I will write a new post. I have been called words like mean, and people are acting like its the end of the world. I never said stuff like "NANCY STINKS" or anything like that. The first response was by "Sudden Blow", who thought FOL should be called FOJ. Well if that was true, why did the show go down when Charlotte Rae was replaced by Cloris Leachman(yuk)? The reason is simple, Mrs.G is is much better than Beverly Ann, just like Jo, improved the show from the season 1 girls. Its very true I prefer Blair's character to Jo's, why she is funny. they way they worked is like a comedy team, same for Natalie and Tootie(although not as funny). But I should be entitled to like Blair better, just like I prefer listening to Sherrie' Austin over Brittney Spears or Willa Ford(yuk). Nothing wrong with that. I would recommend people go to Napster get some Sherrie' to listen to. "Dreaming Out Loud" or "Little Bird" might be good places to start. As for Nancy, I still believe you people have overrated her. Why don't they pay her $20 million a picture like they do Julia Roberts if she's that good?(and I prefer Nancy to Julia). The reason is she is a pretty good actress not great, seen better and worse. You act like she is incapable of a bad performance, trust me the only poor FOL episodes are not Season 1 or "Brian and Slyvia". Plenty of weak Mckeon episodes like episode 53 for starters. Sherrie' Austin sings a few songs I don't like like "Sarah". You people take this show way to seriously like Bush vs Gore, its a sit-com, not real life deal with it. PS: The person who mentioned Kim Fields, thats a fair point, I was just comparing FOL alumni now, thats why I avoided discussing the most successful FOL alumni, MOLLY RINGWALD. Lets bring Jo back to Earth with Blair, Mrs. G, Natalie, Tootie, Molly, and Pippa, and off this plateau you guys put her on

I agree with my girl Cokies (I almost always do!) that some of this was long overdue to be said around here. I also side with Devon King and leslie that people do have the right to disagree, and this is what makes it a discussion board. You can't very well discuss anything if there aren't differing view points.

But a word of advice to you, NYGEORESTRAIT. If you deliver your message in a hostile and an attacking manner, people are going to respond to you in that same hostile and attacking manner. You can't insult people for liking Nancy then be upset when people call you "mean". The art of rhetoric requires you to learn how to disagree without being disagreeable.

There is no point in posting the message you did. You are entitled to your opinion, but what was the point of saying you dont like the way we like Nancy. That is the way we feel and you saying that sure isnot going to make us calm down on our posts about Nancy.
So just lay off. Okay.

Cool

That's nice of you to post a new topic explaining your last one. I think that these people way over-reacted, and should be open to other peoples opinions. And I agree with you NY person or whatever your name is, She is a good actress, but I've seen better and worse!

if we're really gonna get into "successful alumni". What about Clooney? he's more successful than Nancy, Kim and Sherrie combined. Yea, he wasn't "one of the girls", but technically Pippa wasn't either.

Hey, I respect your opinion, but the way you said it, that Nancy fans need to get a life and that watching "The Division" is like watching grass grow, well, I think you could have put it a different way. You like Sherrie Krenn, that's fine. I personally don't like country music. I do, however, like LeeAnn Rimes. George is definitely the most successful one from the show. Nancy and Kim are tied for second. Nancy isn't getting 20 mill because, well, let's face it, she's looked at as Jo. Even when she auditioned for the role of Jinny, the creator of the show thought that the cast director was nuts when she brought in Nancy McKeon. But then Nancy proved them all wrong with the performance she gave. I think Nancy could be in a big motion picture, she's got the talent for it, but directors and producers don't see her as Nancy McKeon, the actress. They see her as Jo from The Facts of Life. This is why I think she doesn't want to be a part of the reunion. If she wants directors and producers to look at her as a serious actress, she has to let go of Jo. I would like to see her in the reunion, but I respect her decision. Sometimes I think that Jo is the show The Facts of Life. The reason is, I saw the first season and it was terrible. Even with Blair, Tootie, Mrs. G., and Nat, the show just annoyed me the first year. But they obviously didn't annoy me, it was the other characters. Yes, when Mrs. G. left, the show was worse. Actually, I think it was the writing that made it worse plus the fact one of the main characters was missing, however, I thought Beverly Ann was hysterical. Okay, what I'm saying is, I realize Jo wasn't the show, but sometimes it seemed like she was. (maybe that doesn't make sense to u but it does to me for some crazy reason) Lastly, Nancy is underrated, not overrated. The peeps on this board pump her up so much cuz they're sick of the directors and such underrating her. So her fans overrate her a little, but the big shots in Hollywood underrate her. It's cool for people to idolize their favorite actress, I do, but I don't think of her as God for God's sake. Nancy inspires people to follow their dreams and she's a fun actress to watch. Okay, that's about it. Out!

Yes, there was a point in his message. Your just offended that not everyone here agrees with you about Nancy McKeon's talent and stature as a celebrity.
It is rather absurd to shift through every 'Nancy McKeon Got A Nose Job!' or 'Did you see that Nancy movie last night on Lifetime!?!' topics everyday.
But on the otherhand, you yourself is intended to your own opinion, just like Devon King said. A double-edged sword isn't it?
And thank you coily for agreeing with me about finally addressing this topic.

And to NyGeorgeStrait, you are right again, that Molly Ringwald is definitely the most 'successful' actress out of the 'Facts'. But then again, some can say George Clooney. Although both of those actors were on FOL for a very short time, and generally didn't help the show out that much.
And that goes for Sherrie Austin as well! ( she has the honor of being the most hated character in the whole series, right beside the Rickster ).

But to myself, Nancy McKeon/Jo is not on some pedastal you claim her to be on around here.

I never commented on Sherrie' Austin's(nee Krenn's) acting ability. In fact, her stint on FOL, was used to finance singing lessons(she hired out Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris's vocal coach. However, a couple of points. 1: Since she was enrolled in Eastland(episodes 207 and 208), she is an official Eastland/Edna's Edibles Girl. 2: She was certainly better than Jami Gertz's "Boots St Clair" character. Jami did several good movies, "The Lost Boys", "Less Than Zero", "Jersey Girl" to name a few. But as "Boots' yuk. One long post stated that people are sorry for Nancy, because she is only seen as Jo. Guess what? She is not the only one to face that problem. What has happened to teen stars like Molly Ringwald, Elisabeth Shue(a personal favorite of mine), and Ally Sheedy? Their careers are essentially over as major stars. Now there are people who have overcome this such as Drew Barrymore, and Jodie Foster. But they are the execption rather than the rule. In fact, there are few stars in history who were both TV and Film stars(George Clooney is one), Clint Eastwood(he starred in "Rawhide" before films) is another. So I don't feel sorry for her at all. The best FOL episodes were episodes where there was someone usually(but not always Jo), who was a catalyst for Blair. Examples include "The Four Muskateers"(My favorite episode),"Big Fish/Little Fish'(I loved the puppet scene with Blair and Jo), and "Gamma, Gamma Or Bust". My intent has never been to put Nancy Mckeon down, but to point out that while "Jo", is important, so is "Blair", Mrs.G and to a lesser extent "Tootie" and "Natalie". And to introduce Sherrie' Austin's music to those FOL fans who are unfamiliar with her(In particular Shania Twain fans). PS: For the poster who does not know who George Strait is, he happens to be a country singer like Garth Brooks.

Alright, I agreed with you until this sentence above.
All in all, I can say Jo was the coolest character on the show. She was independent, tough, funny, and under all this, she had a heart. ( I am strictly talking about the Jo in seasons 2-5/6ish).
We do have to agree that Jo 'influenced' and was admired as a strong character. Much more than any character on the show. As sad it may be to you, we do have to face the fact that that's true.
We can however disagree with the utter 'worshiping' of Nancy McKeon and her character Jo around at this board. It almost comes to a point of annoyance.
Well, that's all I have to say...right now.
Make of it what you will...
