Default I got the Homecoming DVD!!!

I couldn't wait to post this...Today, I was at Wal Mart and I bought The Homecoming on DVD!! I just ran across it too. I so can't wait to watch it!! I'm going to tonight. Has anybody else seen it? I know it just came out on DVD like in September. I was going to get "The Birds," but when I saw The Homecoming, I knew I was getting it instead of The Birds (I love that movie). I got it for $13.24. And I also got "National Velvet," with Elizabeth Taylor for only $5.88!!

I haven't seen it for probably about 10 years (when CBS last showed it), and I remember seeing it annually on CBS in the 70s.

It's interesting to see, but ultimately not as satisfying as the best episodes of the regular series. Patricia Neal is a little too hammy as Olivia. And it's odd seeing other characters (Grandpa, John, Ike, the Baldwin sisters) being played by actors different from those who played them in the TV series.

I loved it. I've watched it twice already. Probably will watch it on Christmas Eve. I loved Patricia Neal as Olivia. I thought she did a marvelous job. But, I love the regulars for Ike and Sherrif Bridges better. The ladies that played the Baldwin sisters were ok. (Miss Emily talked about Ashley Longworth way back then, aww. ) Now, I want to see Spencer's Mountain again. I've seen that before. I think my favorite scene from The Homecoming is probably the bird's nest scene that they show sometimes in The Waltons.

I'd really like to see "Spencer's Mountain" -- I've seen bits and pieces of it before, but not the whole thing through.

I really enjoyed Michael Learned's subtle performance in the series, and that's part of the reason why I have trouble with Patricia Neal as Olivia.

That scene where Elizabeth gets the doll with the cracked face ("It's dead!") always creeps me out, for some reason.

I used to watch this at Christmas time when it would be played every year. I loved it. I want to get it also because I think it's a great movie.

Signed,
